Happy First Day of Fall!

Good morning and welcome to a new season! You may live where it's cool already or you may live in a climate like ours where it's still air conditioner weather...either way let's bring in this new season!

It's time to look ahead with positive thoughts and make a few plans.

Do you have a fall bucket list? We have a few things in the works beginning today with brunch with friends at a local hotel.

Fall days for us mean the yard work begins to taper down. It's sweet relief from the heat and hard work. We will plant pansies and bulbs along with a few other fall gardening tasks. I'll make a few notes so we remember what worked in the gardens and what didn't. We will make a few plans for next year's gardens while we continue to pamper the perennials and trees we planted this year.

Fall means sweater weather! I love fall clothes and always love to get a few new pieces.

Fall means walks outside. Hot chocolate and lots of hot coffee. Favorite cool weather recipes will be coming back into the rotation and this year I want to try some new recipes.

Fall means Texas A&M football and Dallas Cowboys too. If you were to walk past our house on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon you might hear yelling. Nobody is fighting...don't worry.

Our youngest son moved out last week so in this new season, we are adapting to our empty nest. It's weird. I won't lie. There's a favorite picture of our sons that I took one fall day when they were about 7 and 4. I've been staring at that picture a lot the last few days and just can't figure out where the time went! We are the proud parents of a soldier and an RN -two people who have chosen to serve others.

Fall means pumpkins! I love them! Bring on the decorative pumpkins and the real ones.

What does this fall hold for you? I'd love to know.

  2. Happy first day of fall to you, too!
That's how I've been feeling, too. Looking at photos and remembering my kids when they were little. I wish I had done a lot of things differently. I guess I did the best with what I knew at the time.
    Have a lovely day!

  5. Your list is much like mine with college football a big part of Saturday’s. I am ready for it whether it feels like it or not. I bought a sweater today though it might be awhile beforenI can wear it.

  6. FALL is my favorite season, but it doesn't feel a bit like fall here!!! Still in the upper 90s! I keep hoping though. In fact, I just posted about it on my blog:) I know you are super proud of your kids/young adults...and yes, the time sure does get away from us, doesn't it? I can remember when we reached the "empty nest" stage. Oh my...it was such an adjustment. Now our son lives about 2 blocks over with our DIL and two wonderful grandkids...so our nest never really seems too empty anymore:) Like you, I love my FALL clothes...bring on the long jeans, long sleeves, and my cowboy boots...and I'll be a happy camper!

  7. Hi Stacey, happy fall. It's hard to think of fall when the weather is hot outside. It has turned cooler her and I too love wearing jeans and sweaters. My husband love watching the football games too. :)

  8. Happy First Day of Fall Stacey! I know how you're feeling about that empty nest, it is a lonely feeling and more so this time of year! Time with my little boys went too fast! Im planning to finish up Fall decor inside on Monday and probably do the front porch also. It's still so hot here and I am ready to welcome in some sweater weather!

  9. We're suppose to have fall temps this next week and I hope that happens. I'm past ready for fall. We've been in the empty next for 21 years and, once adjusted, it is wonderful. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  10. Stacey,
Happy Fall! We had so much rain last night that some of my flower pots without drains filled up to the rim. I kept waking up off and on during the night hearing the rain against the sunspace roof in the kitchen. So, rain is one of the things I think of when Fall arrives. This is when we begin our rainy season that refreshes the woods, small postage size prairie, and native plants around the house. Today was overcast and drizzly off and on, but I still got a little done on updating the landscaping and porch decoration for an upcoming Fall home tour of outside spaces.

P.S. I watched the last 3 quarters of the Texas A & M versus Alabama football game while it drizzled some more outside. I have never been a football fan, but my dad and two brothers loved watching sports of all kinds. They were all BIG Bama fans (since they lived in AL), and I watched the game today thinking about all three of them. All of of them have passed away, so it was a good day remembering them and our times together.

  12. Ahhh.....Fall 🍂.
I try to hold off, turning on the furnace for as long as possible. I add layers, while sipping a hot latte. It’s slwsys fun to see if I can hold out farther then the year before. It hasn’t been on yet.

  14. I LOVE FALL!! For me it is everything you mentioned. I always get a new wreath for the front door, some new hoodies, I pull my comfort food recipes out and I bake a lot of pumpkin and apple goodies. The usual and nothing wonderfully new, but isn't that what we look forward to in each new season? To celebrate it the way we always have.

  15. Happy Fall Y'all! Yesterday was wonderfully cool and rained all day. Perfect college football weather--even tho our Razorback got beat and the season doesn't look great! Still other SEC teams did well. A pot of homemade chicken soup and a pan of cornbread, and of course, the house wine of the South, Sweet Tea and the day was perfect. Love fall -- I hope it last for at least a month before winter comes to visit.

  17. Happy Fall, Stacey! We finally have a little cooler day today (rain), but I am looking very forward to more. I just transplanted a peony I've nurtured all summer, hoping to give it a good start before winter, and looking forward to some cooler gardening days (and fewer mosquitoes!). I bet you are a little melancholy, given the season sort of prompts it anyway, but also the fact that your son has moved. A new season, indeed! Sending {{hugs}}

  18. Hi Stacey! Happy fall to you as well. It's such a great time for reflection and anticipation for the winter months to come. It is hard to become an empty nester - we've been empties for three years now and I really miss the bustle of our house. But, like you and boys, I'm so proud of our daughter and grateful she became a strong independent woman out on her own. Still miss her though! Thinking of you during this transition. Jane

  19. Happy Fall, everyday will get easier and then they come to visit and it's hard to let them out of your site, i use to stand out by the driveway until i couldn't see any more. The last few days it has been so nice here in Oklahoma, 60's and 70's. Have a great week.

  20. Happy Fall, Stacey! I'm ready for true fall temps!
I like to take walks in the fall once it has cooled down. I do more baking in the fall than other season.
I'm definitely ready for some new fall tops and a new pair of jeans.
My garden needs lots of work but it is still too hot to do anything.
    Have a lovely Sunday!🍁

  22. I can't believe how fast time is moving along...seems like we had a short summer but we really didn't...it's much cooler here..acorns are falling from the trees...no color change in our part of the county from the trees. I have bought some tiny pumpkins but nothing big yet...I've not brought out fall bins and may not...just a few...I am already gearing up for Christmas..have ordered a large Santa poster to go over my mantel...almost totally finished with my Christmas shopping...looking for a tall, slender tree for my dining room...bought a 36" adorable Santa to stand by the tree. I didn't do much last year at Christmas time...just too sad. Feeling better this year. I am having the Bunco Christmas party at my house this year and really looking forward to it. Love to you!

  24. Fall! For me it means a month in mostly England but Paris too. Less than a week away! It means being apart from Lizzie for that long, probably sore feet and bad back but big, happy smiles. It means coming home to a cozy house, a cat that's probably irritated at me (unless the housesitter spoils her rotten and then she'll REALLY be irritated I'm home!) and two weeks till my art sale. It means a Southern Exposure visit this week and two in November. It is a merry go round!
