One of Our Favorite Recipes for Patriotic Friday and a Giveaway Announcement!

Oh mercy it has been a flurry of activity here at our house! June 24th is our one year anniversary in our Forever Home which means workmen have been here completing a list of tweaks and improvements that we requested. Meanwhile, we are preparing for our soldier and his girlfriend to come home for a few days.

I contemplated new and fancy recipes to cook for them but in the end, I'm sticking with our favorites. Favorite foods just remind you of home. Right?   I shared this one a few years ago but y'all...no kidding...it's worth repeating. My people really aren't that flexible when it comes to food.  Nobody here is terribly picky but they like what they like and see no reason to go beyond the tried and true. So I am obliging.

Let me remind you that I am collaborating with Tree Classics and four bloggers to share Christmas trees decorated in honor of our service men and women. We all want to share other fun patriotic ideas with you too, thus I'm sharing this Perfect Pound Cake that you might just enjoy for your 4th of July gatherings.

I call this Perfect Pound Cake because it is very basic and is made with ingredients that you always have on hand. It comes out with a little bit of crunch on the outside and moist wonderful cake on the inside. Pound Cake is so versatile! Have you ever thought of that? You can top it with any fruit, caramel sauce, hot fudge, toasted nuts...the possibilities are endless and change the flavors so that you never get tired of it.

I think the real key to this cake is to follow the instructions for the oven temps very carefully and watch your timer. Test the cake with a toothpick before you remove it from the oven to make sure the inside is baked. Too many times, we've eaten this without it being completely baked. :)

Can you believe how short the ingredient list is? Some things are wonderful with just the most basic ingredients and this is one of them! We made it patriotic just by adding strawberries and blueberries.

Now, remember the patriotic Christmas tree I shared last week? Today you can find a tree at Mary's blog Home Is Where the Boat Is. Mary's decor is outstanding for every season and holiday. She's the decorator I hope to be someday! Please pop over to see her post.

Leave a comment expressing your patriotic thoughts here or on last week's post where I shared my Christmas tree. You have the chance to win a set of Winter Delight ornaments from Tree Classics. Check out the Tree Classics site and then tell me what your favorite white Christmas tree is.

Then on June 23rd...pop over to the Tree Classics Facebook page and vote for your favorite tree that has been decorated by Jen Lutz of the Tree Classics blog, Shirley of Housepitality Designs, Mary of Home is Where the Boat Is, or me- Stacey of Poofing the Pillows! You will be entered for a chance to win a tree for your own family. You can begin voting today and the winners will be announced on July 4th. *Both giveaways are open the US residents only.

My fingers are crossed for you friends! I would love it if one of my readers won the tree.

Please consider pinning. :)

A recent trip to Washington D.C. had me in tears at times for the pride I feel for America...land of the free!! Your tree, my dear Stacey is my favorite, the topper cannot be beat!

  24. Hi....How do you add the butter...do you cut it into the flour or is it melted and added to the wet ingredients? Am I reading too much into the recipe? It sounds so yummy and I want to make it....thank you!

    1. Susan, I hope you see this response. I soften the butter and just add to the wet ingredients in the bowl. You aren't reading too much...I just assumed too much. It's so easy and you really can't go wrong.
