Our Dining Room Update

Hi Friends! I'm happy to be here now to share our dining room with you.  I think it's basically complete! Awhile back I asked for your input about this room and you had some great ideas.  The crowning jewel in the room-that made it all feel right- is the curtains made by my favorite sewing friend, Sonya of Sonya Hamilton Designs.  The curtains are beautiful! They make the room feel pulled together and remove the echo effect of a tall room with hardwood floors. They add the huggy feeling to the room.

I wish you could stand here with me to see that just about four feet from the dining room windows is our front door.  Our new house is so open that the entry/dining room/family room/kitchen is all one space pretty much. Everything needs to flow seamlessly.  Next to the front door we have small pieces of art painted by Laurel Browning. I love these little 6x6 paintings so much. They are small and draw you in to that spot- I like that about them. One of these days, I would love to get a large piece by her.

There is only one actual wall in this dining room and it isn't the full length of the room because it has a doorway that leads into the drink area/pantry. We don't have room for a piece of furniture there so we hung our Ballard Designs mirrors that we've had for probably 10 years on the wall. I love the way they bounce the light around and echo the three windows on the front of the house. It seemed that we needed something above the mirrors to add to the height on the wall. This old crusty shelf is one I've had for about a few years and it was hiding in the closet so we brought it out. Don't you love it when you have those a-ha moments and realize something you already have might work? Well that's what happened with the shelf and I have to say we really like it there. The art on the shelf is a fine piece from Hobby Lobby for a whopping $20! It's the perfect size, adds more height, and has a pretty depth of color that was needed in the space.

On the table right now we have a large tray with two mercury glass candle sticks. They have been favorites for awhile. This year I asked for Luminara candles for Christmas with the flickering wicks. Why was I so slow to realize how wonderful these are? Love them at night!! I'm the girl who still has apothecary jars around too...I think they are so pretty with something inside. We do need to find a table runner or ask Sonya to make one.

The dining room looks out at the front porch and the front of the house. It won't be long at all until we are filling up the flower pots again! I'm picturing pink geraniums outside those windows.

Now I know you girls all said we need a rug...but  I don't really want one under the table. We enjoy the ease of pulling the chairs in and out right now and we don't have to worry about matching more rugs...there are several in the great room space already. :)
We've been in this house seven months and I have to say we feel so at home and so blessed. New homes take time and a developed vision. I take it in spurts with lots of progress one week and then none for a month or so. That's just how my mind works.

I hope you'll come back Friday for a fantastic First Friday Home Tour!

  11. What a pretty room...and I love the simplicity of your table decorations! And I agree, there is nothing like Luminara candles, I have quite a few and love to set them on the timer - they looks so real that my little nephew goes near them and says "hot, no touch"!

  19. How so very beautiful and Sonya does an amazing job...I just love how the print of the drapes coordinate so well with the panels that you purchased from Ballard....I have to agree with you on the rug. I do not have one in my dining room either and I love the ease of the chairs moving across the floor and the low maintenance of not having to worry about spills. You are truly putting your beautiful signature on your new home!

  25. First of all, I LOVE apothecary jars! I remember when you last showed yours, it inspired me to get mine out and dust them off. But that was during the holidays and I forgot all about it. Well, I'm telling you now that I'm going to venture into my scary closet and fetch one, clean it up and fill it with candy. I like the idea of having different holiday candy in them for each season. Anyway, I love your dining room! No need for a rug. It's beautiful as is. Those curtains are perfect and that chandy...well it's perfect too. Great job!

  27. Very pretty ... so light and bright. I love your blue door. I grew up in New Mexico where blue doors and/or windows are "king"! (My front door is a darker blue.) The Laurel Browning paintings are lovely.
