Choosing the Lighting for Our New Home

Happy Monday peeps!
Did you have a nice weekend? Our days involve going back and forth to the new house all the time...because we just can't stay away!  Yesterday it poured rain but we donned our mud boots and went for it.

We are busy making light fixture selections and this is where we are for now. I have realized that you can look at all of this too much and although Pinterest is a great resource, it can be confusing too.   Remember back in November when I talked about lighting? I've been all over the map since then so I finally decided to get it together with my thoughts and choose!

Let's pretend that you just knocked on my door and I welcomed you in with open arms.
In the entry you'll see this beauty hanging from the 16' ceiling. It's hard to tell in the photo but this lantern is BIG. We think it will perfectly introduce the feeling of our house which will be a little bit Southern Living and a little bit cottage.

The dining room is directly to the left and this sweet thing will hang in that room.
She's the Ariel by Quorum and I love the delicate arms along with the crystals. These two lights are sharing a space basically and I think they will work well together.  The finishes are similar and the styles mix.

There will be two of these little beauties over the kitchen island.  Give me all the sparkles! We went back and forth about whether we should have one large chandelier or two smaller ones and after studying lots of pictures, two it is. There are can lights in the ceiling so the chandeliers are for sparkle and fun.

This one will be over the kitchen table. They look nice together. Right? I think so. I like how the chandeliers over the island have all the crystals but the larger light below is more simple.

There's still so much to pick. We have to choose the light fixtures for outdoors, the ceiling fans, etc. The tile has to be picked this week and I haven't even looked at it. It's fun though! We are loving every second of this process. We are wondering about window coverings too. We originally thought we'd put plantation shutters everywhere but now the windows are in and we realize there so are many of them and they are big....and expensive.  I'm researching the options. My husband has taken to saying,  "Now Stacey...."

I can't leave without saying Thank You for all of your nice comments and emails lately.
You all are sweet people! I really do appreciate you. :)

  9. Choosing all of the items for a new home is so fun and yet so stressful at the same time. I remember when you showed us the lantern for your foyer and I absolutely loved it and the chandelier you chose for your dining room is gorgeous. They will look beautiful together. I think it makes a big difference in how the overall house looks. I just ordered a new light fixture for my front sitting room. It's like jewelry for the room!

  19. Stacey,
Beautiful... everyone of them, but my favorite is the first one.

You know that I love light... lots and lots of light in a house. Windows everywhere... I think shutters block a lot of light, but you will want something to cover your windows for 3 reasons... 1] control light when you want to sleep during the day or watch TV without a glare, protect your upholstered furniture from fading, etc... 2] provide privacy... 3] control the temperature by keeping out the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. Instead of shutters, think about Levelor blinds that can be pulled up allowing almost all the window to be seen. When they are lowered they help control temperature. I have Levelor blinds in my sunspace, but you never see them in photos because they hide behind that very short ruffled fabric valance at the top of the window. They are good at helping keep out the cold at night or on snowy overcast days. You can choose lots of lining options for adding insulation or for totally blocking light. They are less expensive than shutters, plantation shutters for sure.

  24. Oh Stacey, I love, love, love your lighting choices!!! Everything you've chosen is so pretty, and I'm picturing it all up, but only in my home! LOL! My late Beloved actually was the one who wanted plantation shutters all through the house. I have to say, that it has been wonderful in never having to think about window coverings. I'm looking forward to you moving in and seeing the finished home.

  30. Oh Stacey, what a grand time you are having -- and that has to be both fun but a little stressful, too -- wanting to be sure to make the right decisions. It's not like you can try it on in the store or take it back if it doesn't fit. I suppose you CAN do that -- but it's a lot harder after it's been wired and all! But I love what you've shown. and it's so exciting!

  31. Hi Stacey,

Wow! Your building a new home; how exciting! Your choices are all gorgeous and each one complements the other(s) re: shared space. I really love the first one - how unique!

    Like you, I did a ton of homework when we were building our home. Unlike you, I didn't have the benefits of Pinterest and beautiful blogs and decorating websites! You can imagine how many magazines and books I lugged over in my luggage from Canada; no wonder I was in better shape then!;

    Happy shopping!
