Creating a Sweet Spot in our Rental- Ten on the 10th

Hi friends.
Welcome to the second Ten on the 10th where I'm joining some other friendly bloggers
to share ideas for under $10.

This month I'm going to tell you a little about our rent house and a spot I adore.  This little house is teaching me some things. It's nice and truth be told...we could live in it forever with some work. However, the walls are painted dark gray and burgundy. It's dark in here! What some might feel are moody and cozy colors feels like a cave closing in to me. We are making the best of it though and have enjoyed a few carefree months in here so far. It's kind of nice to have home maintenance be someone else's responsibility.

Most of our decorative items are in boxes so I've created this little sweet spot on a corner tabletop that I change up every now and then.  The round table that used to be in the niche of our curved staircase (at the last house) sits here with one of my favorite lamps. I recently bought a cute little galvanized tin to hold a plant or other goodies. This was found at Hobby Lobby for under $10.
I definitely wanted to include a nod to Valentine's Day so I made a super easy printable on our computer and printed it on regular paper. Printables are always and forever an easy way to change a vignette.  This one was basically free.  The sweet little heart ornaments are left out from Christmas. I love them!

Our new house is coming right along and I will share those pictures with you in a day or two. That's really the sweet spot in life right now! We can't wait to get there.

Have a great day!

  5. Stacey,

I LOVE that tin! Such a great idea, creating a small area to decorate when you can't decorate the entire space. I am definitely using the printable signage... thank you so much for sharing!

  6. I totally understand trying to make a home base in a temporary space. It's not easy, but it can be done.

I am loving your Instagram updates on your construction.

  7. Darling little spot. I think sometimes being in between houses can be beneficial. You learn what you can live without, and what you definitely need.

  8. Very nice! I love the hearts...I collect them. :) Thank you for the printable too!

I love watching your new home in progress on IG. I can only imagine your excitement! Not sure you would want to do it but are you allowed to paint in the rental? Perhaps even one room being light and bright might help.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  13. I love it too and it's nice to have a few hearts in our decorations all year long. Thanks for the printable. I printed a few Valentines from images I found on the internet and gave them out to my Farmer's mkt friends. Hugs, Diane

  17. Hi Stacey, love those little heart ornaments. I bet you can't wait to get into your home. I don't have an IG account, but I can see photos on your sidebar. That's got to be exciting, but I am finding home improvements daunting, at least when it comes to making selections (we aren't even in the construction stage yet). I suppose once you've done one, it gets easier, but these are really my first major projects inside and I get so ambiguous in deciding! It's nice that you've got a space carved out for yourself. I can believe you need it, esp given your project! Have a great weekend.

  21. This is such good advice. Decorating can tend to be overwhelming, but focusing on just one little spot can make things a bit less stressful.

  30. Stacey, I know exactly how you feel. Ou are doing so much better than I was 4 years ago. We were in an apartment for 11 months between houses. The apartment wasn't so bad, but I was used to almost an acre lot and now all I had was a small patio. My husband loved it (no yard maintenance.), but I hated it because I love my green space and being able to call my space my own. Four years ago I didn't know what a blog was, I wasn't blogging, had never heard of Pinterest or Instagram. Most of our stuff was in storage and I couldn't get past the confines of the apartment. I applaud you for your positive attitude. I wished I had a better attitude back then. Thanks for hosting and organizing and your sweet self.

  32. I didn't even manage to drag any of my valentines day decor out this year. Thankfully we still have tons of love to go around but the house is looking a little bare. I know you can hardly wait to be in your new house!
