Six Ways to Summerize Your Kitchen

Happy Monday Friends!

When I think of summer I think of sunshine, freedom from schedules, homemade ice cream, hamburgers on the grill, and many other wonderful things.  With these sweet thoughts in mind, I wanted to summerize our kitchen.

Here's what I did in 6 simple steps:

1. Scrub the Decks

First I gave the kitchen a good scrub from top to bottom and I tried to look at it with new eyes.  Did I totally revamp things? No, you know me better than that. All it takes is a few tweaks here and there to make the space feel new but we want to start with it sparkling clean.

2.  Make Way for Watermelon

I cleared the counters even more than usual because the kitchen works hard in the summer.
We need room for what's important - watermelon and homemade ice cream.
There will be gatherings with friends and family so we need room to work.

3.  Add Some Art

Kitchen art in the form of cup towels is perfectly wonderful! I love to pick these up wherever I go. Some are for using and others are just for looks.

4.  Soften the Landing

Here's where I will confess that we had the same rug in front of the sink for about 7 years. It wasn't The Same Rug...I bought about 4 of them over the course of those years. It was time for a change and this beauty fits the bill. Now I stand on an indoor/outdoor rug made of my favorite colors of the moment and it makes me smile.

5.  Welcome to the Table

Fresh flowers from the grocery store sit in a basket that's easy to move at a moment's notice.
I gave some thought to changing this completely but it's easy and pretty. Why fight it?

6.  Leave a Light On

It doesn't matter what time of year it is, a lamplight welcomes people.  This little lamp says come on in and have a little cake with us. The plates are in the cabinet just above.

I have a few more ideas coming soon. What do you do to summerize your kitchen?

  12. Well, I spy a CC teapot! I love that light in the corner - that's something I would much prefer than a toaster or any other appliance on the counter. That's the most inviting touch, any season. I love rotating towels, too, and I'm the world's worst for using the same ones, washing after washing (for someone who hoards vintage textiles, that's just pathetic, isn't it?!). Nice touches, Stacey, all of them!

  22. I love all of your ideas! The best is to make room for watermelon and ice cream! I usually change my towels and my curtains above the sink. I might have to look for a summery rug...the one there now is so dark and tired!

  23. You cannot go wrong with watermelon and ice cream. Such a pretty towel. Pretty rug too. Happy summer.

  24. Mine is under construction but we've been on a pause because of the rain. I can't paint when it's so humid out.

Usually, I switch out the kitchen towels, a flower arrangement and I'm cheesey as can be and buy the kids those magnets for each season on the fridge door.

  25. I really like the little lamp in the corner - it looks very sweet and welcoming.

  26. Love the rug, Stacey...and your quick ideas to freshen up the kitchen! We need to always make room for homemade ice cream! Blessings, Pam @ Everyday Living

  30. Simple changes are the best for me - I also change towels, hot pads, flowers, simple things that add color and freshness. I really like the changes you made.

  31. These are such great ideas!

  33. Dear Stacey:

  41. The basket on the table is so cute.

  42. Beautiful Ms. Stacey!! Now, you need to give more info about the rug!!! It has some red in it, and inquiring minds need to know :^)
I buy kitchen towels as souvenirs. They are things that tell a story every time I look at them!!
I would love to copy you with flowers in a jar...however....the Princess Posie would think I left her a yummy snack....and after the snack, a drink....done by dipping her paw in the jar and then licking her paw!! Yikes, sometimes the jar just "tips" over......
Have a great weekend, and be blessed!!!

  43. Such great ideas - and I love the rug! I have a few indoor outdoor rugs and they are wonderful in high traffic areas! Enjoy your weekend!

  44. What an adorable tea kettle!

  45. I love all your ideas for making your kitchen look like summer!

  46. Great tips. Your kitchen is so cheerful and pleasant. Love your dishtowels and rug and certainly the MC teapot!

  47. I enjoyed this post, everything is so pretty, from the rug to the towel. I suppose for me the big summer difference is making more room for fruit, summer fruits are so pretty and tempting.
