First Friday Home Tour Featuring Happy Happy Nester

Good morning home tour loving friends!
Today we have a very special California home to visit. Bathed in sunlight and filled with bright colors, I know you are going to love Janine's lovely home.  I'm going to share pictures and Janine is doing the talking today.

Northern California open concept home tour. kitchen, granite, plantation shutters.

We live in the East Bay of San Francisco. Our home is conveniently about 30 minutes from the city and about 3 hours from Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and an hour from Napa. We adventure on the weekends  and after 6 years of calling Northern California our home we still haven't visited some areas and towns.

We are an active family of four; our children are ages 14 and 16 and they keep us busy most days. Biking, walking, and hiking are big in our area since the weather is pretty moderate year round. We do get a brief touch of the seasons but summer weather starts around May and goes until September.

Before we bought our house in Northern California we used to live in Seattle, Washington. We went from a newly built two-story home to a 1960 Ranch style one-story home. We have done a fair amount of renovations and we started with the kitchen, living, dining, and family rooms. We opened up the kitchen to the living and dining room. We tore down a few walls and pushed the ceiling up in one room. You can sum up our California style as a Pottery Barn home.  My style is light, cheerful, and not too fussy.

The family room used to act as a storage room for all the overflow of furniture and home decor.  It was a room we rarely used and now it is a hub of kid activity.

Our living room entertainment center was naturally stained wood and we had it painted to lighten up the room. The windows throughout the house were the same wood stain, and we had them painted as well.  The floors were a light oak color as well and we opted to darken them up a bit as well as refinish the surfaces.

Our bedroom is  a lovely quiet oasis from the rest of the house. It came with a gas fireplace that is viewable from the bedroom and the bathroom. The previous owner remodeled and added the master bathroom. They installed the gorgeous white built-ins in the bedroom and throughout the house.

We have loads left to remodel and hopefully some day we will have the time and money to tackle this never-ending project. We love all that we have redone and thoroughly enjoy the new open floor plan. We have a happy nest here in the Bay Area of San Francisco.

  18. Stacey,
Another beautiful home in your series of First Friday Home Tours... Citrus colors are not usually my favorites, but Janine's touches of yellow throughout her house seem perfect with the white and natural light. I love the SMILE pillow on the bed.

  26. What a lovely, bright, and airy home Janine has. It must be quite different from living in Seattle! I can say that because that was my home all my life before moving to sunny South Carolina. Thank you for this series Stacey. Home tours are one of my favorite things.
    Blessings,
    Patti
