Some Days Things Go Wrong But Life is Still Wonderful!

My house smells amazing!
It smells so good that if you walked in the door right now you'd surely ask
me what that wonderful scent is.

Life is wonderful, Thoughts of Home on Thursday #2,

Yesterday my husband and I were eating lunch together when suddenly there was a loud thud and the cat came skidding around the corner all wild eyed.  That sound was the HUGE jug of Downy that we just bought at Costco.  The jug vibrated right off the washing machine when it was on spin cycle and spilled all 164 fluid ounces on my floor.

This post is sounding a little like the time the Dr. Pepper rolled here at our house.

When things like this happen we have choices to make.
My first choice was to try and clean the mess because I was terribly worried about the grout.
Then I went right back to my tuna sandwich. I have my priorities and food is at the top of the list!

My house smells wonderful and remember I'm focusing on wonderful this year.
Little things like this don't get me down usually.
Yes there might be quickly spoken cuss words but I move on.

How about you?

Don't forget to join us tomorrow for Thoughts of Home on Thursday #2.

Thoughts of Home on Thursday, blog linky party

It's my turn to host and I'm giving away a subscription to The Cottage Journal

  3. Oh my....life does happen. I bet you have one of those front loading machines. I regret that purchase, but Hubby says I have to live with it for a long time.

  4. Could have been worse. Same thing happened at my house a few months ago, only it was a huge bottle of Tide, not Downey. That was not fun to clean up!

  6. I can still remember when my mom was making jelly and the pressure cooker blew. That was a good smelling mess.
But the time hubby brought home a mini keg to celebrate Octoberfest with friends while we were living in Germany and it got dropped and exploded all over my kitchen...not so much.
So here's to good smelling messes!

  8. Well you may as well look on the bright side, and having the house smell good is a pretty good side effect of the spill :)

  9. I love how you look on the bright side of things...Is those flowers blooming in your yard? How is your weather? Have a lovely day. Enjoy your fresh smelling home.

  10. Oh wow! I am so sorry I laughed at your expense. But I have to admit, as large spills go? At least that one smells great. Your positive attitude is great, and also contagious. Thanks for showing us the positive side of things!

  11. I will take the Downy over Dr. Pepper any day!!! Glad you can look on the bright side of things. And, I am sure your house smells amazing.

  12. Me? I dropped half an omelette on the floor and got just the mess and not the aroma. I feel so cheated.

  17. A Cottage Journal is my very favorite decor and gardening magazine, Stacey. I cannot bring myself to get rid of any of the issues I have collected for the years since their first publications. I even did a post about it and the select few others that we read in our home (My Magazine Obsessions). The only places I have found it here is at the book stores and at Sam's Club and I am always checking to see when it hits the stands! Thanks for hosting the party, Stacey.

  19. And...your house smells wonderful. I know, I have learned to let some things roll off...no need to get all excited. ha! love it. I was afraid the thump was a car hitting your house. Now...that would be something to get worked up over. ha! Sheila

  20. Oh my word! I was thinking about the flowers in your first photo smelling good ~ :) What did you use to get it all up? Love that you went back to your lunch! We must determine our priorities, right?

  21. P.S. I forgot to mention my "dog food" spill! My boy is older and doesn't have a full mouth of teeth anymore. I soften the dry food, which he normally won't touch now, with warm water...remove the water and then add poached chicken and/or veggies. I brought in a new bag of the dry dog food and put it in 2 plastic containers that I use. In the process of all this, I dropped one of them and dry dog food went *everywhere*! Guess who came and began eating it? He's a mess and I love him dearly!

And, I love Cottage Journal. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  22. I'm glad it wasn't bleach!!!! That happened to Louis Dean back before we met. He lived in Brownwood and a whole jug of Downy spilled on his carpet! I don't think he did much about it! The stain was still there when I visited him months and months after that happened!! So was the empty bottle!!!
I've been training him these last 10 years and now I think he would actually clean up a spill. Maybe. I would hope so. Probably not.......

  23. Well if something had to spill at least it smells fresh and clean! I make my own "febreeze" spray with downy and baking soda...works great

  24. Oh, Stacey - I love your attitude. Things happen and you seem to handle them just as you should.

I'm working on a post so I can link up to your party this week!

    Thanks for sharing at SYC.

  25. Yikes! I bet your kitty did run! Mine would still be under the bed, lol. A great smelling house is a good thing. And spilled Downey is cleanable so finding the bright side of things is always good! Good for you!

  26. Those pesky washing machines!! Mine likes to shake and move and has actually blocked the door. I've learned to leave the door open, the hard way. I love that you continued eating your tuna sandwich...much more important. You're a wise woman, Stacey, because you've learned the lesson that the cleaning can wait! How did you get all the fabric softener sopped up?

    ReplyDelete
  27. hahaha!!! oh no!!! that stinks but I love your attitude! Yes, food is top on my priority list too :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Stacey, oh my head hurts to think of all that fabric softener to clean up.
But so glad to read you finished lunch, then tackled the clean up. You have a great attitude and that's what makes you so inspiring!! I can imagine the fresh scent is awesome in the house.
I dropped a bottle of sun dried tomato salad dressing last week and I tell you, the scent was not so nice and the clean up was a messy job!! haha

  29. Oh gosh.... and Downy smells soooooo good too! Unless of course you buy the unscented like we do, but if you have to spill anything, Downy would be my choice! LOL No really. Did it make your floor soft? (jk) The hardest part for me would have been to lay down the sandwich.

  30. Glad to see you are taking it all ins stride. At least your house smells fabulous!
I am glad you continued with your lunch.

  31. Definitely something to chuckle about…glad you got to finish lunch!

    ReplyDelete
  32. That is too funny! I feel for you Friend because I absolutely hate to mop. My least favorite thing in the world to do. Glad you enjoyed your sandwich though.

  33. I love your attitude about it! And yes, it totally got me thinking of the Dr. Pepper incident. ;) At least they both smelled good. Lol!

  34. Your priorities were spot on! For whatever reason, I've been in the spill zone lately -- a mini-bottle of wine used for adding to pasta sauce fell off the top of the fridge and broke (ant alert!), then a couple of days later, I tripped and the dry catfood in the cup in my hand spilled all over (ants, over here!) and then yesterday some leftovers from the Middle Eastern food restaurant tumbled out of the fridge when I tried to reach around them. At least that was an easy clean-up!

I think I need to slow down!

    But 164 ounces? Ouch!
