Are You a Creature of Habit?

Some time back I proclaimed on this blog that I would try to be more creative.
Did that happen?

Mmmm, maybe not.
We did change the color scheme in our master bedroom and that was epic for us!

Yesterday on our snowy day I cleaned the kitchen and tried to change the counters.
I added a plate.
A really pretty and colorful plate.

I really like the plate.
My son noticed it immediately and complimented it.
The colors are pretty next to the Janet Hill print.

Will the plate stay there?
Nope. Bye bye plate.
Well, it can stay until my coffee is finished when I clean the counters again.

I need space to cook.
Acres of it would be nice but this little stretch next to the stove works well.

Some things just need to stay the same.
Are you a creature of habit too?

I did change up the cup towels.
There....creativity in the kitchen.
I'm good. :)

Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend.
We are off on a little trip to New Orleans.

  1. Ok I am mad. I was just telling David that I would like to visit New Orleans and he said to put it on the to visit list when he retires. I know what you mean about counter tops. I do not have very much space and would love to decorate it, but cannot. Love the pretty towels.

  2. Love the plate and the print together...I am a creature of habit with some things, but I am constantly changing things out...needing a change or trying to constantly make things fresher...my son says that he can always count on one thing whenever he comes over...change...Have a great weekend Stacey!

  3. I love those colors in your kitchen and that print is so pretty. I have had the same items on my countertop forever. I used to switch the accessories up on a very frequent basis, but not anymore. I am either too busy doing other things or I see something pretty and then wonder where I'm going to store it when I get sick of it, etc. Lately, I've been craving a bit of change, but then my kids ask me to watch a movie or go shopping with them and the feeling is gone! ;)

  4. The print and plate are pretty and look great together on your counter. I admit, I am a creature of habit. I used to change things all the time but the last few years I have slowed down and now tend to leave things alone if I really like them and not change things just to change them. Have a great weekend!!!

  5. I am totally NOT a creature of habit. I change something every day it would seem. My husband jokes and says that he could never EVER go blind, I'd kill him. I was moving furniture around at 4am last night because I couldn't sleep. So, um, I have issues, haha.

My little suggestion is to keep that gorgeous plate out - just put it behind your lamp in the corner as a "backdrop" of sorts and scoot your cute print further down so they play together more w/o too much space between them. Also your little vignette would do well to have a tiny little vase or earn of something green, ivy real or fake - would tie in beautifully!

  6. Steve is a creature of habit and I am a creature of change. That makes for some issues particularly when I want to invade his space. I recently moved a table into "his" kitchen and he was stressing over the change. Now he loves it and you would think it was his idea!

I love your sweet towels and that little embroidered piece with the pear!

  7. I wouldn't say I'm a creature of habit so much as, you get things the way that work for you and know it's what you need. We cook from scratch, we need counter space, so all those cute vignettes I see in people's kitchens? They just don't work for me. I wish they did but I NEED my space. The plate is pretty, what about displaying it on the wall where it will be out of the way? The towels are very pretty, I tend to add color to my kitchen that way too. I'm one of those weird people who can get happy over a brand new kitchen towel. Lol.

  8. Love that plate, so cheery! I am a creature of habit, but I do love when I get in the mood to change things up!

    Hugs!

  9. I'm definitely a creature of habit, which is a good thing, because I have even less counter space than you do lol

The print, the plate and the towels are really pretty :)

  13. Well I just came from the kitchen where I've been taking everything down from the shelves. (See my last post ~ Time to Start Over!) Maybe someday soon things will stay the same. Hope you have a great time in New Orleans.

  14. Hi Stacey, your counter is gorgeous and I love the print with the plate. I leave things for awhile then change them up for the seasons.
I have the same granite. Love it.

All our snow melted. It was a big deal at the time and we had 4 inches here in Flower Mound.
Have a wonderful time in New Orleans.

  16. I love your bright little towels. They give color and don't take up work space. Have a fun get-away.

  17. The plate and piece of art look wonderful together...maybe you can find another place for them? And I love the silver platter on the wall behind your stove top. So pretty!

    Enjoy your trip!!

  18. Hi Stacey! Oh, I love your pretty plate and the painting! You've just got too much time on your hands, girly! :)

  19. Your kitchen is so pretty. The plate and painting do look like they were meant for each other. Love the cheerful colors. I think kitchen counters are tricky. I like the looks of accessories in other people's kitchens, but if I have too many on mine it drives me crazy when I'm trying to cook.
    Have a great trip.

  20. I am NOW because the way my place is...rather small, there's not alot of space for much variety.

When I was younger and we had a big old house I moved the furniture and things around alot though :)

  21. They do compliment each other perfectly! Yes, I'm definitely a creature of habit. I've been attempting to make some subtle changes in our home for a couple of weeks and I'm liking it! Change is often GOOD!

  24. Hope you're having a blast in New Orleans. Love all of your cute tea towels. I have drawer full of them. I can't resit them when I spot a cute one.

  25. Enjoy NOLA! Have fun eating your way around. I am a bit of tea towel horder too. My girls say less is more on the countertops too.

  26. I love that pretty plate next to the picture, but I know what you mean about needing counter space and room to cook. I don't like my counters cluttered for the same reason. I really like how you set up your kitchen towels, too... great idea.

Once I decide that I really like how something is arranged then I become a creature of habit and it pretty much stays put... :)

  27. I'm afraid I am, Stacey. I do try, but 9 times out of 10 I put things back to the way I had them before. I also like to keep my kitchen counters clear for working on. Like you, I don't have a lot - it seems to be broken up into little bits of counter space here and there, so I like to keep them fairly clear. Most of my change ups don't happen on the counter. : )

  28. Love the colorful plate! Not only am I a creature of habit, my family can't stand it when I change things around even as rarely as I do it!

  29. Hi Stacey, stopping by to say hello. Love seeing your kitchen again.
Hope you're enjoying our warmer weather.
70's today but now they are saying another cold front the end of March. I am so ready to plant. This is the latest ever here to begin my garden!!

  32. There are some things I always keep the same because in my mind they're perfect where they are.
Hope you have a wonderful trip to New Orleans...it's always good to get away now and then.

  33. That was funny! It was very pretty and does coordinate. I have a small kitchen, and I change it up, but I try to keep the counters clean otherwise there is no space to work.

  34. How is it that you make creativity look so good! I like how you add red and white to so many of your vignettes. I think it looks so fresh and colorful. Simple touches make a difference, especially when done by you:)

  36. I always have a dilemma with my kitchen counters as well. I have pretty little things I's love to display but like you I need the space for cooking. I just ordered an orange olive oil cruet - wonder if I'll find a space for it or relegate it to the cupboard. Your kitchen is beautiful.

  38. I think that to a certain extent we are all creatures of habit. I know I am. But change can be exciting too so trying something new once in a while can be fun...The plate and painting look great. Happy Sunday.

  42. Nope, except of some changes for holiday decorating, I am a creature of habit. Once I find things like I like them, I don't like to change.
Hubby teases me about that alot.
I did like your plate with the print though.
