Bookshelf Confessional

Confession:

The shelves in our family room have been exactly the same almost 2 years.

There I said it.

So these past few days I've been tweaking.

Covering books with scrapbook paper and adding fun little embellishments.

Brought out an old tray in deeper colors than we've had lately.
Then added a basket behind it for texture.

Found these pretty leaf prints from the last house that were hiding in the closet.

We have so many irons in the fire right now that my husband said,

"Could you try to finish at least one project soon?"

How about you...many projects lately?

  1. Stacey, don't feel bad. I have lots of spaces that have been the same for the past 2 years...lol! I like what I like; and it stays that way until I get bored with it! Your books look great! I don't have any major projects going on...just tweaking, as usual.

  5. Our similarities just keep piling up...I am working on my bookshelves as well! They have been the same for years and this summer I decided I was going to totally shake it up. You're way ahead of me though, I have things in a box ready to go up/ take down, but...summer has been too nice! Yours look lovely!

  6. Ha, my bookshelves change all the time...depending on which household junk gets laid on them until I can find a place for it. Lol. I love how your shelves look, it's enough to inspire me to try making mine pretty! The deep red accents are so perfect for fall! What kind of paper did you use? 12x12 scrapbook? It's so pretty!

  10. I think your shelves look great! I really like the leaf prints. I forget I have certain decor items too. I have a few big rubbermaid tubs in my closet full of home decor items I'm not currently using. It's fun to go through them and find "new" things to bring out again. :)

  11. Oh girl, if you saw this house right now! We have decided to move a new project ahead of the other 8,657 projects that we are half done with, seriously someone should lock us both up :) There isn't a single surface in this little house that doesn't hold something that shouldn't be there. Looking at your pretty displays is a sight for sore eyes! Such a cute idea with the books, I will so be copying you on that one. Very pretty!

  15. I'm still working on the white shelf in our son's room (our newlywed), Stacey. It has a nautical theme & I added a sandpiper this weekend. It's a work in progress. The fleece bed throw is next on my list to sew. :)

  20. Your "tweaking" has definitely come together well. Of course, I think you could take a brown paper sack and make it look good! Yes, Chris and I are in the process of painting the interior of our home. We've been working on it off and on now for about 3 months or so. I just want to be done with it! It's turned into a much bigger project than I had anticipated.

  22. 2 years? I have you beat! I have lots of areas in my home that haven't changed in over 5 years.

Everything looks lovely, love that tole tray.
And, I love what your husband said too, I am not so great at finishing:-)

  23. My husband would sympathize with yours right now. We have 3 rooms in the process of being painted so all of our furniture is in the living room. Fortunately our painter is a good friend, quiet and efficient. He hopes to be done by Friday.

And then, I am going to copy your idea of covering the books with scrapbook paper.

  25. I love the new look of the bookcase. I think we become blind to things in our houses and don't even notice them after a while. Switching out is always nice. I love the covered books.

  27. Stacey, don't make me laugh! I think I have about 10 projects going or in the works currently. If I didn't have anything waiting to work on I would be bored! I don't remember ever not working on a project, even when I was in my early teens I was always creating as I'm sure you were too!
    Love your blog!

  34. I agree with Shanita...don't worry about your bookcase shelves being the same for a while...mine don't change much at all...maybe that means we got it right the first time!

Thank you for your comment on my blog today...I hope to start posting more often like I used to...but since I spent part of every day with my 94 year old mom at her nursing home, it's hard to find the time right now...it's people like yourself that keep me going!

  41. Love the colors you've incorporated in your rearranging, Stacey. Subtly seasonal. I had to laugh at your husband's comment. That' the price men pay having wives with great imagination, isn't it? LOL xxx ~ Nancy
