A New Shelf in the Granny Guest Room

There's something about a shelf that excites me!
You know, it's the chance to decorate a new spot.

I recently ran across this new chippy metal shelf at a shop here in town.
It immediately called out to me and said Take me home!
Of course, I had to oblige.

She's a crusty old thing and I have no idea where she might have been used before.
But in our house she's above the granny guest bed.

With about 5 minutes to decorate today I threw these goodies up here and
I'm happy with it for now.
I have wondered what Kris at Junk Chic Cottage would do with this shelf.
She amazes me with all of her chippy finds.

The red picture frame that you've seen before came from an antique
shop locally. The bird frame is from HomeGoods or TJ.

We had a discussion about the safety of the shelf above
the bed but it's screwed into the wall with wall anchors.
So it's there for eternity.

Over on the dresser is a pitcher of fresh flowers.
What will I do when the season ends?
Almost every room in our house has had flowers this summer.
Love them!!

Off to Zumba soon.
Hope you are having a nice week. :)

  1. Cute shelf, Stacey! I had to laugh about the potential for the shelf to fall. That would be a story in itself!

  3. What a pretty find, Stacey! It looks great! I am going to miss my full vases, too. I have zinnias everywhere and their color makes me so happy! An empty vase is so depressing! ;)

  6. The shelf is a great addition. We are furnishing two tiny guest rooms in our new home and find we need to size down to double beds. Your granny bed looks like a double. Good thing our adult kids are skinny!

  7. It's really pretty Stacey. It's interesting to see old items mixed with new. I have a new love for all things distressed so it's calling my name too.

Thank you for decorating with warm and cheerful reds! I think it's refreshing in a sea of neutrals. Every decor show, blog, Pinterest etc ... is completely void of red and warm colors and I miss them. I'm decorating our new home with different colors mixed throughout and I'm loving it so far.

Thanks for your kind words on our guest room.

  13. Love your shelf and all your red! My favorite color!!! I spied the Methodist Hymnal and went back to my childhood! My Mother was always taking home the hymn book thinking she was picking up my red Bible instead at the end of service as she was talking to other worshippers.

  18. I love your shelf and would be the perfect Granny to test drive your room :^)
I have a really silly smile on my face though...I like to use books as risers for other goodies....
and have been guilty of using hymnbooks because they come in a multitude of colors. My favorite is the bright red Methodist hymnbook....at my house...as we speak, it is holding up a cute little girl figurine and a crown with a candle in it. You are for sure my kind of decorator!!!

  20. I am one of those people that always think twice about putting a shelf above the bed. If I do it I'm going to have to make sure it is in the stud to rest my nerves. I love the chippy look, adds character!

  22. I love the scroll ends on the shelf, I'm sure it's fine hung with wall anchors! I have a ton of flowers everywhere too, zinnias just like you. They are my favorite late summer flower.

  23. The shelf looks great! I was just thinking of having my hubby build me a small bookcase for the living room just so I'd have something else to decorate. ;) I love that bird frame and the checkered throw too. Does Sophie ever bother your fresh flowers? I can't have any flowers where Holly can get to them because she won't leave them alone. This means I usually resort to putting them on top of the fridge where she can't reach them. (at least she hasn't gotten up there...yet.)

  24. That is a cute shelf, Stacey! I had plans when I saw 2 different shelves in Home Depot recently. My DH painted them for 2 rooms. Now they are adding just the right touch! :)

  25. It kind of makes me wish I was a granny staying in that room:) I like the red and white, and often think of you when I see it in room decors of my friend's homes. The shelf adds a nice touch.

  31. Love the shelf - I too love to decorate shelves.

And, I need to take up Zumba, but volleyball season began this week and I am afraid that two practices a week and one game a week is all this old body will take.
