Find a Friend and Learn Something New!

Happy Monday to you!  Today I want to share something really fun I did with a friend last week. This was spontaneous but also came about after lots of talking and consideration.

You see one of the blessings I have in this life is that Jemma of At Home With Jemma is my next-door neighbor and friend. Actually, I'm her neighbor because she was here first. Jemma and I have talked at length about the fact that blogging leads to too much time spent on the computer. Blogging is so much fun because we connect with people from all over the country and world via the computer. However, sometimes you can get too caught up and realize you haven't actually been with others.

We made a pact to get out more and to find new ways to be creative. Last week we attended a flower arranging class at the cutest little shop in Rockwall called Bunches.  Just walking in the door we got so excited! It's a darling shop with the cutest and most creative displays ever.

The owner of the shop and the ladies working there were so sweet and welcoming the whole time. They also served wine and cake - what more could you want?

We were each given a huge bucket full of colorful spring flowers to work with  Aren't the flowers amazing?

First, the owner gave an informative demonstration on making an asymmetrical arrangement. Then we spent about an hour and a half laughing and having fun with other ladies from our town while we made our own arrangments. This time with nice people in lovely surroundings was very inspiring. In the end, we each had our own arrangements to take home plus newly gained knowledge for making more in the future.

Jemma and I had another adventure awhile back that you can read about here. :)

We drove home that night chattering about how nice it was to learn something new. What else could we learn? What other classes are out there? We'd both like to learn new cooking skills and gardening is always fun...maybe Spanish or creative writing. I'm wondering about yoga classes. Our minds have been reeling with possibilities!

Tell me, what new skill would you like to learn? We realized it's so good for our brains and attitudes to tackle something new or just to go out to a new place.  We really enjoyed this experience and would like to encourage you to try something new too but then come back and tell us about it.

What's something new you've learned lately?  You can come back tomorrow for a little bit of floral inspiration with Ten on the Tenth.

What fun AND truly gorgeous bouquets. The number 1 skill I want to take classes on is photography. I'm thinking of attending community college this summer.

What a wonderful experience! That shop looks like somewhere I would love to go!

I agree about learning new things. I have met a wonderful man who coaches a special needs baseball team. I helped with the kids at practice a couple of days ago, Definitely a new (and humbling) experience for me.

This looks like a GREAT shop and I loved your afternoon together DOING something fun (and beautiful). I loved the photos too -- great pix of you both. And I also loved that while you took the same class, your project is unique to each of you with different flowers and colors. I love learning new things, taking new classes. Saturday I did a bus tour with our theatre group to a place I'd never been seeing a brand new show I didn't know and I loved it -- the camaraderie on the bus, the show. And I want to take a felting class! I adore classes!

You are so lucky to have someone next door who is on the same wave length as you. I love learning new things, but life has been too busy lately. My husband and I married in May 1997 at 47 and 50. We took a second Bachelors Degree program (we both were college students in our 20's) that was on every other weekend for a year (8 hours Sat and Sun) and you can bet we were the oldest in the program and the newest newlyweds! Lifetime learning is so important and would be especially fun with a neighbor. I've taken several painting classes for different types of chalk paint, but that's all I've done lately.

You and Jemma are just too cute and your floral arrangements are fabulous! How much fun would that class be? I need to be intentional about spending more time with friends.

Stacey, are you two literally next door neighbors? If so, I did not realize that! I couldn't agree more that learning and trying different things is the best for us. Your arrangements are spectacular.
Mr. P. & I ventured out yesterday to learn something new - pickleball! It was great, great fun and good exercise too (because we chased the ball a lot, lol). A couple other friends had invited us for an open court session at our local Y, and we will return to play again! We've heard rumors that our city rec ctr may make open courts outdoors, which I would love even more.
Cheers to more fun adventures and learning!

Your arrangements are gorgeous!!!...Before blogging, I did many "how to" things with friends...we would sit down and come up with the "things we want to learn to do" .... Not only do you have fun, but learning something that you can apply to your life and home is always a bonus...Next on my agenda is a cake decorating class!...Oh my, I hope they serve wine too!!! So great to have a bestie to share your world with!

Stacey, your arrangements are beautiful! I'm newly retired and just started a blog. I love the blog, but I realize I need to get out and mingle with others. I do have a few friends I get together with, but I would love to take a Yoga class. Going to look into that once we get some spring over here in Western NY!

This looks like so much fun and that first picture of the flower is stunning. Plus you two ladies are absolutely adorable! I agree, I need to get out and do more stuff with friends. I clicked yes on a neighborhood post looking for people to join a gardening group and another couple recently asked if we would like to learn how to play bridge. We said yes!

It's so funny, but I thought for the longest time that you and Jemma were sisters! Don't even try to twist my arm to say which one I thought was the oldest...not gonna say! I was just so delighted to hear that you are neighbors. The flower arranging sounded like a wonderful and fun class to attend, and you each had such good company!

Warm hugs,
Carol
