A New Sign for Our Fall Front Porch -$0

Welcome back to Ten on the 10th for the month of September. My friends and I are sharing projects, recipes, and other tips that all cost less than $10.

Do you consider yourself creative or artsy?  I've not considered myself to have those gifts. Most of the time I think of creative ideas but talk myself out of them for fear of really goofing things up. Isn't that silly?

For this Ten on the 10th, the idea of a sign for the front porch popped into my head and I decided to go for it! After all, I've seen many signs created and it doesn't look that hard.

For this sign I started with a backboard that we used on the patio at our prior house. The backboard was just hanging out in the garage and I had considered throwing it away a time or two but it just seemed like sooner or later, a good idea would come to mind and it did! :)

Here's what I did:

1. Printed the letters out in Microsoft Word.
2. Cut the letters out just to make them a little easier to work with.
3. Placed the letters and taped them down then traced over each letter with a ballpoint pen.

4. Traced over the letters with my chalk pen.
5. Painted in the letters with paint I already had.
6. Did one more coat for good measure.

I'm happy to have this made. This will be part of my fall porch which is coming soon. One more thing....while making this sign out in the garage, I listened to an audio book. With the cooler winds blowing and a fun project to do, it was such an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

In the future I won't talk myself out of all creative ideas.

I hope you will go visit my Ten on the 10th buddies to see what they are sharing.

It is so cute. I will have to see if David has any wood to fix me a sign or the porch.

You are definitely creative!!!!! If this sign is any indication, you need to go with your creative side a little more often. I love this sign and can't wait to see your fall porch.

Of COURSE you don't throw out something like that. (Just like I can't bear to toss the piece of flattened wood that washed up at the lake). Because we paint things! And in this case, you rocked it! I love it and it's perfect!

What a great idea! I never try signs because I don't get the transfer thing. You have a perfect, easy solution for that. No fancy machines to trace and cut with. Love it!

I've been seeing these pallet board signs everywhere in the stores and I have been thinking of making one myself. I've made similar signs using a Circuit Machine. Love yours!
