The Phone Call That Changed Everything and an Amazing Book!

Good morning! Today I'm showing you around our master bedroom here at our Forever Home. I'm also sharing a little story about the very best phone call I have ever received. The one that changed the course of my life.

Every person has a very important, amazing story and this is the one I look back on and know that it really mattered. I'll try to keep this short...

When I was in college I worked at a savings and loan. Do you remember those? The one I worked in was a quaint, sweet business much like the ol' building and loan in It's a Wonderful Life. I loved working there even though that business had nothing to do with my chosen degree. Upon graduation I decided I'd just stay there because it was comfortable, and nice, and familiar.

A few months after graduation, a phone call came offering a job in my chosen field. I had not applied for this job and couldn't imagine how they got my name! Well they got it from my university....so we set up an appointment for the interview in a teeny tiny little town two hours from home. I had never heard of this little town in Texas! My dad drove me to the interview and as we were exiting the highway to the town, I just knew.

I knew this town would be important. I knew they would hire me. I knew this would be my job.  I didn't understand how this would change the course of my life but I knew that I was moving from a life in the Dallas area to a small town of 800 people!

That November I packed up my stuff and said goodbye to my parents and the savings and loan.

I said hello to the most welcoming people you could ever want to meet. In fact, the first person I met in town was my husband's uncle.

A short time after that I met my husband's sister.

Then I met my husband's friends.

  And then I met him.

He didn't actually live in the teeny tiny little town but he came on the weekends because his family was there. We met and that was it! Yes the job was amazing too but the whole point is that phone call and that leap of faith led me to my husband of almost 30 years.

Isn't it amazing that some small moments can really be SO BIG in the scheme of things? Sometimes small things are just small things that roll on by but sometimes they are wonderful and surprising and pivotal!

There have been many amazing moments in life but that one little phone call has always been important in my mind. It's part of my story kind of like this out of style master bedroom furniture that hubby says is part of our story.

Do you know the important and amazing moments in your life? I'd love for you to share with me in the comments.

Now about the book...our very special blogging friend KariAnne Wood of Thistlewood Farms has a new book  coming out. I promise you, it's a book you don't want to miss!

So Close to Amazing: Stories of a DIY Life Gone Wrong...and Learning to Find the Beauty in Every Imperfection

It's not a book about DIYs really. This is a book for your heart. This book is for the moments when you aren't sure and need a little encouragement. This book and KariAnne's words will make you remember that we are all amazing, we just have to trust.

You can preorder your book before September 4th and receive free goodies to go along with it.

What a wonderful story!!!! I'm always amazed by other people's story. Sometimes it's the little things that lead you down a completely different road. My bedroom furniture is very similar to yours. I've thought about replacing it several times, but I haven't found anything that I love enough to replace it. Your bedroom is truly a relaxing spot - great light and soothing colors!

Beautiful story, and it was so sweet of you to share it. I have to also say as a die hard purple or grey lover, that soft soft blue is calling my name. That bed is just perfect.

What a sweet story Stacey. I left nursing school, unsure of what I wanted to do, only to end up working for an insurance company my dad worked for. Little did I know my future husband would walk off the elevator a couple months later. 29 years later!!

It is amazing to see how God works... and how those seemingly unimportant moments at the time, become much more important when we look back on them. :)

I have always believed in providence, God puts us where He needs us when He needs us. Your story is a beautiful example of that! 30 blessed years and think of all the blessings you two have been to others. Your bedroom is beautiful and KariAnne's book sounds quite interesting.

Stacey what a great story. Shows that fate and having faith are big parts of our journey here in life. When I was single my roommate talked me into going to a costume party at Halloween. My costume was little red riding hood. I really was hesitant about going but went. That is when I met Terry and he was dressed as a wolf!! It was meant to be! So sweet how these little moments become big moments for sure. čśś

I almost missed your post. Your feed for some reason doesn't renew on my blog list, so it stays at the bottom:) I check it periodically and am so glad I got to read a very pivotal part of your story today. How precious! I love your bedroom. It looks like my bedroom furniture bought over 30 years ago. I wondered how we would ever afford it. We got the bed, dresser, end tables, and chest. We made payments forever:) or so it seemed. I have always adored it and even though it is not the latest style, I am like your husband. It is part of our story. The bedding looks great!

I just came across your blog with the invitation to order and read Chapter 1 of your book. I read Ch 1 and immediately ordered the Nook version. Can't wait to read it all. I'm not a religious person, don't believe in providence or pre-destination, but I do believe that sometimes the Universe manages to put us in places we need to be. Regardless of how you got there, I can't wait to read of your life-changing move and how it challenged you, your family and your place in this world.

I'm in love with your bedroom, Stacey. We have the same furniture! The colors-especially the mint green/blue are so fresh and pretty. It's a little difficult to make changes in a set of furniture from long ago. Love it.

The story of your first job and how you met your husband tugs at my heart. I met my husband three years before our first date. We were just friends, but each time I saw him I felt something different...a curiosity and interest I couldn't put my finger on. Well here we are thirty years later!

I love KariAnne. Her book is going to be a huge hit!

Good Afternoon Stacey, What a beautiful story. It is amazing how life twists and turns to allow us to reach the place we need to be.
I met my husband, because my father told me I really needed to change my job as it did not stretch me enough.... he knew of an opening in a place where he worked. I wasn't so sure because I loved where I worked.
I took the plunge and an interview was arranged. I was successful and was offered the job. A week or so later, my future husband walked into my office.... I remember thinking that he was 'gorgeous'. He obviously thought the same about me, as he asked me out a week later and here we are 47 years married (47 years in October) with two beautiful daughters.
If I hadn't taken my father's advice to change jobs, I would never have met George and my two lovely daughters would not have been born.
I'm so glad I listened to my father's advice.
Best Wishes
Daphne

Absolutely lovely room, and Princess Posie says Hi to the kitty!!
I loved your story too, and my story would be about a phone call as well. I stopped in at the store belonging to a lifetime friend. He was out at the time, so I purchased the wire I needed and went about my business leaving a greeting for him when he returned. Several days later, he called me just to visit for a moment....invited me to supper, and the rest is history. We've been married for almost 21 years :)
Blessings to you,
J

What a sweet story! I am always amazed that so many factors in our lives intertwine and lead us down different paths. God has it all mapped out for us!
I think your bedroom is beautiful! That lovely aqua color is so soothing and so you. The bed is beautiful too! I think it's a good thing that we don't all run out and buy the latest thing. Our homes should reflect us and as long as our furniture is well made and beautiful it works:) I love seeing traditional, timeless furniture updated with newer colors and accessories. That is the BEST decorating!

I love this! I love how it just happened -- one little call -- and who knew? But that happens in so many ways -- a chance encounter, helping someone out, we never know.

OK, my story. I was getting evicted from the place I lived for 16 years because I had an illegal cat. The cat wasn't going, so I was and I wanted to move up from apartment to duplex -- there were plenty in the neighborhood. I saw a sign on one that looked nice and went to check it out. Nice landlord, really big rooms in a Frank Lloyd Wright-type of mid-century modern home. I loved it. And I couldn't move in for three months and the landlord (naturally) needed to rent as soon as possible. I ended up across the street and over time became friends with the landlord, a nice guy named Rick who loved his bicycle and two boys so much! You know the rest. The kicker? Probably in five, maybe 10 years, I'm moving back into the other side of the duplex! Full circle!

Thanks for the link to KariAnne's book. I'll take a look -- sounds like me!
