A DIY Fountain Anyone Can Do and A Giveaway Winner

Good morning and happy July! Can you believe the 4th is upon us? We definitely have a hard time believing that since it seems we've been in limbo for so long. We are in our new house now! This has been the most exhausting and wonderful experience in a long time.

Easy DIY fountain anyone can do using smartpond products exclusively from Lowe's.

What's happened in 10 days? We've unpacked about a zillion boxes and we're finding homes for things. The grass was planted last week by a crew of people for whom we are so thankful! The shape of the flower beds has been created and they are filled with good rose mix dirt. They are just waiting for our touch now.

Meanwhile, we've created a  fountain for our front porch. I wanted to share with you how super easy this project was to do.  It entered my mind that we could create a small fountain in my beloved garden cart and that this would be really pretty on the porch. Let me show you in just a few steps how we did this easy DIY project.

Easy DIY fountain anyone can do using smartpond products exclusively from Lowe's. Water gardening. Simple garden fountain.

My cart was already planted so I scooped out some plants to make room for our DIY fountain. We began by selecting a bowl that was slightly larger than the bird feeder that we turned into a fountain. The bowl holds the water that recirculates in the pump. The pump we used was the smartpond Submersible Fountain Pump model #FP170AS available at Lowe's.

My super handy husband drilled a hole through the top and bottom of  the bird feeder so we could feed the water tubing through. I hid the tubing by placing a faux plant inside of the feeder. We needed something for the feeder to sit on so we drilled a hole in a grill rack and fed the tubing through it. This allowed us to set the bird feeder with tubing on top of the water bowl.

We placed the feeder and rack on top of the bowl in the garden cart. We disguised the rack with some rocks and placed plants back in around the feeder. We used a pitcher from the kitchen to pour plenty of water down into the bowl. This pump has the great protective feature of turning off automatically if the water supply runs too low.

We plugged the pump in on the front porch and presto!! Water gurgled then came bubbling out of the top of the bird feeder. This really worked like a charm! The pump's water flow is adjustable so we played with it a little to make the water flow gently but noticeably.

Now when guests come to visit us at our new home, they'll be greeted by the soft sounds of water by the front door. We are thrilled with the outcome.

Would you like to win a fountain pump?

This was really so easy I would say anyone can create their own fountain.  Remember, a fountain can be made out of just about anything. The sky is the limit! Want more proof? Visit some other blogging friends who've created fountains lately:

I know how overwhelming a move can be, but you will do it with aplomb, I'm sure. That fountain is just darling. I recently had an enclosed deck built and have been looking to do some sort of water feature. This was a fun post.

I look forward to seeing more of your new home when you are settled. I'll be taking a blog break in August as the grandchildren go back to school mid month and I want to spend time with them taking them a few places--it will be fun! Summer passes too quickly it seems.
