When Girlfriends Come to Town We Decorate!

Two of my favorite girlfriends came to town last weekend and it was wonderful!
There was shopping, and talking, and Mexican food, and a margarita.
There was also a stomach virus thrown in there but it didn't slow us down much.

Adding robin's egg blue to our family room at Poofing the Pillows.

The first night they were here I shared my desire to add more robin's egg blue to the family room
and a project was born!  We were on a mission...in between trying on clothes and watching
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. You know how it is when you are with friends.

Adding robin's egg blue to our family room at Poofing the Pillows.

We found a flower pot at Canton, pillows at Pier 1, a throw at Home Goods,
a little mirrored table at Hobby Lobby, etc.

Adding robin's egg blue to our family room at Poofing the Pillows.

They convinced me to rearrange the furniture which is
T-totally out of my comfort zone but we love it.

Adding robin's egg blue to our family room at Poofing the Pillows.

I look at those blue pillows and just smile. :)
Now one problem has become evident but there's an easy solution.
Can you guess what the problem is?

Adding robin's egg blue to our family room at Poofing the Pillows.

There's too much brown on one side of the room.
What to do, what to do....I have an idea but let me ask..what would you do?

Fun, minus the stomach bug. I had it last week. Thank goodness it was 24 hours. I would break up the pair of leather chairs.

Hi Stacey! So glad to hear you had such a nice time with your girl friends. Y'all made some really pretty in your room. Well, could you place your two brown chairs, angled, in front of your sofa and place your leopard chair in another spot? Love your colors.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

If budget not an option I'd get linen wingback chairs and lighten it all up in there- if not (and believe me those are incredibly amazing leather chairs so please don't get offended, I just love a beige universe most days.) If on a budget I'd paint the little table and the coffee table beige or a sandy whitish linen beige. : - )

Like your touches of egg blue - it's fresh and lovely.

Being with gal pal friends is the best thing ever.

Girl time is so fun and I love having them help me redo things.

It all looks great Stacey! It's so great to get to hang out with friends. You gals really made the rounds and picked up some really good stuff! Love that throw! I think I'd paint the table in between the brown chairs.Maybe in the robin's egg blue with a dark wax or glaze to tone it down a bit? Just a thought.
PS How was the movie? Can't wait to go see it.

Sounds like you had a wonderful visit with your friends! ...minus the stomach bug, of course! I LOVE the addition of robin's egg blue to your home! I'll be hitting our Pier One tomorrow for some of those fabulous pillows! It all looks so pretty, fresh, and cheerful! I have too much brown on one side of my living room, also... two big brown recliners side by side! But Mr. Ramblings loves the chairs, and pillows... not so much! LOL! So his chair remains pillowless... I just live with it! I did paint the table in between the chairs a pretty shade of green... that helped. Can't wait to see what your solution is!

Thanks for pinning some of my recent posts! You are always so kind and encouraging... and it is very much appreciated! :) ~Rhonda

It sure sounds like you had fun. And your touches of turquoise look gorgeous in your beautiful home! Hugs!

Well, I love the colors you added. The throw and the little vase are great. The pillows add so much too. I can't wait to see what you do about the brown. I actually love those chairs, so I could survive with them. I would just add something to the table to bring in those colors. I hate to say it, but I am just one of those who simply can't paint a piece of stained furniture. I am a traditional style girl, but a touch of the two colors with something sitting on the table would be enough for me.
With that said, I can't wait to see what you do! I am sure I will love it! I usually love even those who paint their furniture...I just can't do it.

Hi Stacey,
Girlfriends are the best! I love what you did with your room, incorporating in the robins egg, so pretty!
The little table in between the two brown chairs - can you paint that robins egg? If it's something you don't want to paint maybe move that table somewhere else and find another table at Goodwill to paint or move your new robins egg throw to one of those chairs and a robins egg lamp/or accessories on the table. You really don't need much more - it's already beautiful!
Hugs, Kimberley

Love fun with friends!.

Depending on your budget, a quick fix is lighter pillows and a few throws.

It looks so pretty and fresh! I love it. As for the chairs, I would add another touch of blue or bring in one of your other colors. Sounds like a fun time with your girls!

So pretty Stacey! Everyone has left you with good ideas... Can't wait to see what you come up with. I hope you do a review of the movie here, I LOVED the 1st one, hoping the 2nd one is as good. Glad you had fun with your friends:-)

I'd like to have gotten in on that -- well, minus the stomach bug, of course! How about painting the lamp between the two brown chairs robin's egg blue? The room looks great. It would be fun to see a room diagram of the layout before and after.

Love the furniture arrangement... maybe paint the table?? or replace the table with a painted piece!!

Sure sounds like a fun and productive time with your gal pals, Stacey, minus the stomach bug, of course. Love the touches of robin's egg blue! I have an overwhelming amount of brown and earth tones in our home and I'm trying to figure out what to do. Thanks for the ideas!

I am thinking along the same lines as Jean...add something blue to the table. I would swap out the lamp or add a picture frame or accessory in that color. Or you could just swap out the lampshade! How fun!! Can't wait to see what you do!

Your home is so pretty and inviting! So glad you had a fun girls weekend, sorry a bug was thrown it but y'all are troopers!!

I would either add throws in the same shade of blue to the back of the chairs, or pillows. Anything to drive the eye to the color instead of the brown.

Sounds like fun and you all did great with the refresh! I'm on board with painting the table (or another table, as was suggested, because that one looks expensive), and a pair of leopard pillows in your blue would be amazing too :) I just finally styled the aqua zebra pillows that I got when we were out, can't wait to pull my room together to share also! Happy Wednesday!! xo

That sounds like such a fun time! Too bad about the stomach flu, but it sounds like you all made the best of it. My first thought was to add a throw or pillow to the brown chairs. There must be many ways to break up the brown though,

Daniela said...

... You could reverse the position of the leather armchairs with that of the leopard sofa, or put on them some pillows recalling the shades of blue that you love so much, maybe with a flower-pattern fabric instead of plain colour ...
But I'm sure that your solution is the best and definitely of so good taste, my lovely Stacey !

Enjoy the remainder of your week, dearie,
sending love to you,
and thank you for this funny, enthralling 'game' {{smiles}}

What fun!!! Except for the stomach bug, of course....

I'd be using throws and pillows on those leather chairs to brighten them up - that's what I do in my own house, so why wouldn't I do the same in yours? :) Hugs to you sweet friend - xo

Stacey,
I like Kimberley Seasideave's ideas... moving the throw to your leather chair, add robin's egg blue accessories to the table, including a robin's egg blue lamp. If you paint the table robin's egg blue, that will limit your future color choices for the room. Accessories are easier to change than painting furniture.

How exciting to have friends come to town.

I wish I could change up the furniture in our living room, but too many doors, windows and arches limit where I can place things.

Hope everyone is healthy and thanks for sharing at SYC.

It sounds like you had a blast Stacey. I'm going with some girlfriends to see Big Fat Wedding 2 this Friday and I can hardly wait. Now, for the brown. Pillows on the leather chairs to break up the brown . . . or you could always slipcover them. I saw an amazing recliner slipcover tutorial at Cedar Hill's party this week.
Can't wait to see what you do!

I skipped to this form so I could put my 2 cents in and then go back and see what others said. Here goes: Switch the fabric chair and footstool with the far left leather chair. How did I do? Glad to see you went to Canton. I hope you made it to LaurieAnna's. I posted on what I bought there. Love that place!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your friends, with the exception of the stomach bug! I love the touches of robins egg blue in your family room! I will break all that brown by either painting the accent table in between the two leader chairs or changing it for a lighter color one and by adding some lighter color pillows in the chairs... I cannot wait to see what you have in mind!! Have a great day!

Stacey, spending time with friends is the best, minus the stomach flue! :) I love this color combination. My oldest grandson is getting married in our garden this June. They have chosen this colors so I am totally redoing the garden area to match. Can't wait to bring out my cushions. Your room looks lovely! If you move the aqua throw to the back of the brown chair and add a colored pillow you are set girl! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

I started adding turquoise and aqua to my living room last year and LOVE it. (in the bedroom, too)...
I have 2 brown leather sofas on one side of our living room and it's lighter on the other side...I added off white throws over one end of ea sofa and layered in turquoise throws over those...that and pillows solved my problem...

How fun! I wish I had someone close to me that liked doing things like this. Love the robin's egg blue color added to your room. I like the furniture arrangement (I'm always moving mine around so this is my comfort zone). I see you have two wing back recliners that remind me of mine. I love them but if I sit in them I want to fall asleep! Too bad about the stomach virus but it sounds like it didn't get in the way!

Liz@ Infuse With Liz said...

I forgot to say that I'd consider adding a pillow to the brown leather chairs that blends in the colors you've added to the room. Pillows are such a great way to pop in color. Perhaps one of those "kidney" oblong shaped ones would look fabulous on them!

kitty@ Kitty's Kozy Kitchen said...

It's fun to shop with girlfriends and make changes, too! I love all your pretty things that you bought and love the aqua color touches. How about painting the lamp, that's between the leather chairs, a pretty aqua color? You could always add another pretty Aqua throw over there, too.

What a fun time! I can't wait to see that movie. We still quote the first one all the time. :) I'm thinking you could add some blue to the table between the brown chairs or even paint the lamp base or get a new shade in blue?

I love the pillows and the touches of blue you've added! So pretty.

And I love Home Goods and Hobby Lobby...dangerous to step foot inside the door! :)

Prettypracticalhome said...

I'd add some pillows or change the color of the table for a quick fix, but the room layout is really lovely. You and your friends did a nice job! What did you think of the movie? I was really disappointed that I didn't enjoy it more, since I loved the first one so much. Oh, well!

Jeanie said...

That Robin's Egg Blue is fabulous. I think I need your furniture arranging friends to come to my house! It looks terrific!

Carol said...

I love the touches of blue that you've added, Stacey. I agree with someone else who suggested painting the table between the 2 leather chairs or just adding throws (in the blue, of course) and/or pillows to those chairs. I can't tell if there is enough room, but maybe swapping one leather chair for the leopard-print chair. Now that your mind is totally spinning with ideas, you might want to think about having another margarita!

Warm hugs and Happy Weekend!

Stacey, if it were me I'd paint the base of the lamp robin's egg blue. You found some great accessories to add the color you wanted in your room. It's very pretty. I like it. xo

I absolutely adore the touches of blue. It truly brightens up the space!

Poppy said...

Wow, what a pop (or two!) of a pretty colour can do! I love chocolate and turquoise together; they complement each other so beautifully. To brighten up the two leather armchairs and tie them into the new colour scheme, how about buying some fabric in the shade of the existing turquoise pillows and covering the top of each seat and the front and tucking in the sides to break up the brown? I think that adding more pillows would be too much, but this way you can still get the hit of colour.

Stacey, I'm laughing about friends coming and rearranging furniture. When my daughter was here last week, we rearranged 3 rooms, which I'll share soon. We just need girlfriends to push us to do what we already want to do. I love the robin's egg blue. Thanks for sharing on Your Inspired Design Link Party #30.

Love the decorating and I really love that chair. I need that. HA!

Art @ Home said...

Stacey, I know it's your keeping room, but I love everything y'all did to it. I like that there's "so much brown" on the other side of your room because it ties-in with your kitchen island, and it makes your kitchen really pop. JMHO....

BUT if you wanted to add some color, I'd go with a lampshade, like a fun, quirky Anthropologie one, or the pretty neutral peacock feather one from Pier 1 that only has a little of the Robin's Egg Blue on it.
