We've Made it Our Own - Family Room Feature Wall

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and this is my view from the sink.
Yesterday I had the sudden epiphany that I haven't fully appreciated what
we've done to this feature wall.

It is my personal habit to look around our house and see the things that need to be done or are imperfect. Do you do that too?

Feature wall at Poofing the Pillows. Cabinets, shelves, and planking above mantel.

Yesterday I had the WOW moment and realized it's not perfect but it sure is pretty. :)

Feature wall at Poofing the Pillows. Cabinets, shelves, and planking above mantel.

To this wall we added the built in cabinets and shelves above.
That project was professionally completed by a local craftsman.
We also planked above the fireplace with a DIY project.
We've really made this wall our own by doing these things.

Want to see what it looked like before?
This is the picture we took on the day we were house shopping.
The same wall - big difference, isn't it?

I'm appreciating my view right now. Are you?
Look around and see the beauty you've created in your home.
Whether it's big or little...it's there.

I love the changes you have made to your wall. Built-in touches add charm and value to a home. We just finished planking a wall in our office. I love it.

You do have a very pretty view, Stacey. I love how you planked the fireplace wall. And yes, I'm constantly looking around our house and seeing things I would like to change - it's a sickness I think lol!

It is very pretty! It's a great view. I love the changes/additions y'all made.

I'm glad to have the reminder to see the beauty around me. Sometimes, I get caught up in the comparison game and that's not good. Each space and person are unique and they will reflect that. Beautiful thoughts! Thank you!

I love your planked wall about the fireplace and the built in makes the space. I don't know what you would use it for without it.
Thanks for the great reminder to look past the flaws and see the progress.

Big difference and so much prettier! I think it's really easy to focus on what we want done rather than how far we have come. I always see my home as in need of something. When other people come over and tell me they love my home, it always makes me take a closer look at what is right about it! There is plenty to love.

Wow, wow, wow! I absolutely love it. And, yes, I do that, too. I think we decorating types are never really finished with our projects.

That is some kind of view, Stacey! My favorite view in our home is from our sun room. We can sit in there and look into our backyard filled with trees, birds, squirrels, etc. Love it there!

Stacey, those built in shelves and cabinet did make a huge difference. I can see why you enjoy looking at that pretty wall now. Since I took the Christmas tree down and put all the decorations away, I've been looking around a lot and making plans... :)

Oh and thanks for recommending Melatonin. I've heard about it, but I've never used it before and here lately, I've been having more nights like that.

I love those nooks beside your fireplace. They add a lot of architectural interest. Adding the shelves to one of them really looks good too. It's always fun to make your house your own by adding things to play up the features and adding display space.

Hi Stacey,
I love your view, and I love how that niche looks now with the built ins.
And I so agree, it doesn't have to be perfect to be pretty or to be home! And your home is beautiful!
Wishing you a wonderful rest of your weekend!

I think the changes you have made are stunning! We do sometimes have to take a step back and look at our homes a little differently to really appreciate our touch in making it ours! Hugs!

I think your view from the kitchen looks great! Enjoy it! I love that your television is not above your fireplace. We just bought our place last year and there was already a huge television above the fireplace. My husband and I did a similar treatment by installing faux shiplap over our fireplace, but alas, I don't see how we can move our television. I sit and look at it all the time and try to figure out how I can change it. Your shelves are lovely! Thank you so much for sharing over at Celebrate Your Story!
