A Houseplant That Lives - I Promise!

Are you like me and struggle with houseplants?

Have you bought ivy after ivy and they died slow deaths?
Do beautiful topiaries mock you as you walk past?

Me too!!

Chinese Evergreen - A houseplant that lives at Poofing the Pillows.

Let me share this plant with you that I've had over a year.
This is called a Chinese Evergreen.
I received this as a gift a little over a year ago and truth be told,
I cringed when it arrived because of my track record with indoor plants.

Let's just say that if houseplants had legs they'd run from me!

Chinese Evergreen - A houseplant that lives at Poofing the Pillows.

This sweet little baby is upstairs in a room that we rarely go in (unfortunately) but the light is great.
How do I care for this verdant green beauty?

I ignore it mostly. I water it when it wilts and I dust it.
That's it!
Apparently if you fertilize it occasionally it will bloom but that's too much trouble.

If adding houseplants to your home is on your to do list go find a Chinese Evergreen.

I love houseplants, especially in the winter! They sure bring a little life indoors, don't they? Yes, ivy is the worst to try to keep alive. I'm in search of a fiddle leaf fig now. Love your plant, looks like you are doing a great job with it! :) Have a great weekend! ~Rhonda

Hooray for houseplants that live. I have a Chinese Evergreen in my dining room that's been thriving in low light for years.

I'll have to have a Chinese Evergreen! I must say, I've kept an ivy alive for over a year bow! Woo hoo and it's not plastic!

I have neither the time nor the patience for difficult houseplants so this one looks like it is perfect for me!
Thanks Stacey and blessings,
Patti

I usually have luck with green plants inside, but good to know there is one out there that is kill proof!

Love having houseplants indoors, especially during the colder months. And, I am all about low maintenance!

My problem with houseplants is that I completely forget to water them.

I use flowering plants on the dining room table. They're cheaper than buying fresh flowers and at the end of the week, I plant them in the garden. And with the bits of rain we are getting here and there, my garden flowers are doing much better than they did during the summer of drought.

Now, I need to take Lulu out to the beach before it rains again!

I've seen this plant but didn't know the name of it. It's really pretty and good to know it's friendly.;-) My husband is the houseplant guru so I'll pass this on to him.

I am actually a plant serial killer. My outside garden does (pretty) well, but only because God helps with rain and sunshine. Good to know there is something out there that is hardy! It sounds like my kind of plant :)

I love topiaries although I eventually kill them. My husband keeps asking my why I keep buying them. I told him for the same reason I stay married to him - I love them!

This looks like a great choice! Does your kitty bother it? That's my problem right now...Holly is VERY interested in every plant, which is why the only one I have is an ivy on top of the fridge (where she can't reach...yet) :)

I don't have a green thumb either! Well, that and I forget to water them! I'll have to try a Chinese Evergreen! I've tried everything else! Thanks for the tip!

You may have just found the plant for me! I am not good with indoor plants either. I try, but it always goes bad. I may have to try this one. Wish me (it actually) luck! ;)

All of my house plants had to go outside when, despite the fact that I repotted them all when I brought them in after the summer, gnats took over and drove the pupsters crazy. It so saddened me. I love the Chinese Evergreen, and it was one of the plants I lost when the weather got colder. It does not like much light. And dusting it will help keep buggy critters from embedding themselves.

Really like that. Will have to try to find one. I'm not good with plants either.

Thanks,

I must say I do much better with outside plants. I know you have a very green thumb and nice to know this variety does well inside. Can't wait until spring!

Ha ha! Your plant looks great. I have one ivy that is alive. In the 70s I had plants all over the house - spider plants, ivys and ferns and took such care of them. I'm sure we were breathing wonderful oxygen in our house! ;) One's good enough for me now! Thanks for popping in, sweet friend and for your prayers. I really do appreciate them.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I sure appreciate your visits to my blog.
