Summer to Fall Door Decor

Happy September Friends!

September is a special month.
The air is gentler.
The light is softer.
And the heat begins to subside here in Texas.

This September is extra special for us because a significant girl
is coming this weekend to visit for the first time. :)

The front porch needed a little spiffing up and it's definitely not pumpkin time here.
So....I decided to reuse this basket that I've used several times in the past.
This is a recreation of something I saw on Pinterest long ago.
Luckily, all the parts needed were here in my stash so it was easy peasy to put together.

It's a small porch but it's all set to welcome our son and someone he thinks
is pretty wonderful.

What do you think?

The Best Book I've Read in a Long Time

I had a long list of books to read this summer and they were all fiction.
However, one day I was roaming the aisles at Target and ran across

Chaser by John W. Pilley.

I couldn't scoop this book up quickly enough!

Did you see Chaser on Nova or 60 Minutes?
My husband and I were lucky to see both of those shows and Chaser mesmerized us.

If you've ever loved a dog you should read this book.
Dr. Hilley is a retired psychology professor who has combined his love for his
precious dog with his knowledge of science.

Chaser knows over 1,000 words. She also understands phrases and categories.
Chaser shows us just how smart dogs can be!

Dr. Pilley sets the finest example of gentle love for an animal.
You will learn about dogs, language development, play, and so much more.

Honestly, you can learn about child development by reading this book.
Don't take my word for it though.

This is NOT a how to train your dog book.
It's so much better than that!

Check out the website

Then run out and buy this book. :)

Make No Mistakes Chicken Salad

Chicken salad is one of the small pleasures in life.
Don't you think?

I used to order it at restaurants all the time but it wasn't something I made.
Chicken salad intimidated me. Isn't that silly?
A few years ago, I went to visit a friend and she shared her recipe with me.
The secret really is the best invention store rotisserie chicken.

Here's how I put this chicken salad together today:
chopped rotisserie chicken
chopped purple onion
one stalk of celery chopped
a plop of mayonnaise
and Craisins

There's really no right or wrong way to make chicken salad.
That's the best thing of all!

You could also add grapes, nuts, carrots, bacon, or whatever you have in your fridge.

Have a great Wednesday. :)

New York - I Love You!

I left you hanging the other day with a little teaser about where we went
and what I bought in New York.

These pics were taken with my cell phone and they aren't perfect but see if you can guess where we were.

The gardens were lush.

The furnishings were unique.

The moments were extra special.

And here's what I bought.
Isn't she lovely?

Yes, we went to the actual real Mackenzie-Childs location in Aurora, NY.
And because my photos can't even begin to do it justice, here's a link
to their website. I wish you all could go there and see the bucolic setting where
they actually hand make and paint the pottery.

Everything about it is wonderful!
I know many of you have Mackenzie-Childs pieces.
What is your favorite and most versatile?

Girlfriend Time

The alarm clock went off at 3:00 am the other day and I bound out of the bed...
yes I did...I bound out of the bed!

Showered quickly.
Waved my magic curling iron.
Sprayed on a little smell good.
And hit the road.

Who cares that the roosters weren't awake yet?
I had girlfriend time on the other end of that plane ride!

Girlfriends are very important to me.
Do you feel that way?

I love and adore my husband but time with special girlfriends has always
been the cat's meow to me.

Girlfriends welcome you with flowers and pretty earrings.

And help you with your wardrobe.
And the right glass of wine.

Talk with you about life.
Share recipes and decorating secrets.

And so much more!

This girlfriend shared her beautiful home and life with me for a few days and when I came home...
well, I was rejuvenated.

Thank you friend. ♥

Wait till I show you where we went and what I bought!!
Now spill the beans, do you love girlfriend time too?

Hello August!

I didn't mean to ignore you but there are adventures to be had this summer.
Be back soon...

I hope you all are having an absolutely wonderful end to your summer.
Someone needs to tell Mother Nature that it's too hot here.

How is it at your place?
