Book Club Excitement

Last week I attended the first gathering of a book club started by a group of local ladies.
My longtime friend invited me and I was the odd man out; meaning I didn't know a soul there.
Everyone was so sweet and welcoming though so it was a really nice evening.

The first book we read was The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza.
It was pretty good. This was not a book I would have chosen on my own but it was enjoyable. To me the idea of a book club is to stretch your wings so it was worthwhile.:)

The sweet hostess greeted us last week with wine, salad, and yummy bread.
We sat around the kitchen table in a very low key style talking about the book and relating it to our own lives.

Next time the meeting is at my house!
I must be a little crazy because I don't know these people
and I have a dog and a cat who enjoy new people a little too much.
If my new friends show up wearing black pants they will leave with a little
of our family stuck to them. Yikes!

Anyway, Pinterest links to so many neat ideas for book clubs.
There are countless lists of books to read, food to eat and also fun decorating ideas.
Remember me saying it was low key and enjoyable last week? I don't want to be that girl that goes all wacky but look at some of these ideas. :)

That's why I like book club because I read books I wouldn't normally read. I can't wait to see what fun things you do for your meeting. You're brave, jumping right in there and hosting so soon. Good for you!

I really need to start a book club board on Pinterest. I think I'lll do that now! ;P

Thanks so much for linking to Literary Friday. You've made my day, Stacey!

A bunch of us teachers used to have a book club years ago and it was such fun! Then NCLB and all the testing kicked in and nobody had any time for it...Boo! As long as there's a book, food, and great conversation involved, you're set!

Please keep us posted on the titles you read--I'm always looking for the next great book. :-)

That looks fun. Can't wait to see what you come up with. I also have a dog and kitty and "stress" when new people are visiting.

Stacey, that sounds so fun! I'm not in a book club but I am in a couples supper club which is a lot of fun, too. You've got some great decorating ideas going on there for when it's your turn. Love the books tied with twine! Super cute!

Good luck with your book club adventures! I know some ladies who have been in the same club for years and they are the dearest of friends. Hope you have a fun time deciding on your decor/menu.

You'll have such fun. I'm not in a book club but I wouldn't mind being in one some day and reading books I wouldn't normally choose. Sweet hugs, Diane

I love book club! We have one in our neighborhood and it is always great. The good thing about the book club is exactly what you said...it gets you to read books you normally wouldn't read! I'm glad you had a wonderful time and your party will be a success! I hosted one in January (before my blog) and found a cute little card generator that lets you make cards (which I used for food labels) to look like card catalog cards. Email me (benitagroberts@gmail.com) if you are interested in that and I can mail you the link.

Oh my goodness, what pretty ideas! I used to belong to a book club, it was with my besties, though. We ended up getting vey off topic sometimes. I think this will be fun and you will get to know some new friends. Fabulous!

I have always thought about joining a book club, but I just never took that first step. It always seemed like such a great way to meet new people that all share a love of reading. I'm glad your first meeting went well and how fun to be hosting the next meet up. I think that's awesome!

I love your inspiration pictures. That wreath is amazing and I love both ideas with the books on the table. I can't wait to see what you decide to do. Have a lovely weekend... :)

I love the idea of joining a book club! I can totally see how it would encourage you to stretch your wings and maybe read something you normally wouldn't. Love those inspiration pics. I have one of those plates that you can write on and weave ribbon through and haven't used it in years (I forget what they're called...maybe a "dress me up plate?") Anyway, I should get it back out for special occasions. At least your sweet pets greet new people. My Holly runs and hides under the bed any time someone comes over. :)

I would love to be in a book club---every one is taken!! I've even heard of non-book clubs as so few of them actually discuss the book!

Go which ever way you want. I love excuses to make food for friends so that would be fun for me. Fresh flowers---whatever makes it the setting you want it to be. You are YOU!!!

And tell us all about it!! :)
