Our Planked Mantel

Not perfect by a long shot but I love it!

This little project that seems to take others 3 hours
took us a week and at least 5 trips to

The tongue and groove wood has devilish knot holes I had to deal with.
What do others do about that?
Heck if I know!

I keep walking by and staring.
I feel like I'm in sync with Chip and Joanna. :)

In fact, I've been obsessing about the imperfections but realized,
after staring at Chip and Joanna's farmhouse, that a real shiplap wall is far from perfect.

Our wall has a few more touch ups that I need to do but for a day or two
I'm just going to look at it and smile.
Ready to decorate for Christmas now.

A Peek at Monday

Good Morning!!
Here's a peek at how our week is starting off.
A light dusting of snow. :)
A project in the works.

What does your Monday look like?

The Little Things Like Pretty White Pitchers

When you've been married a long time, it's the little things that can make you
really happy or drive you crazy. Right?

You try to avoid the crazy things and build on the good things.

The love of my life is visually impaired and finding utensils in the drawer is hard for him.
A couple of weeks ago I tried to put away the yellow jar
on our counter that has held utensils for years.
He missed it.

That just so happened to coincide with the weekend that Laurie Anna's Vintage Home is open.
He really wanted to watch the Cowboy game but he agreed to go with me to Canton. He knew it would make me happy.

I found a new white pitcher to put the utensils in.
That made him happy.

See...we both win. :)

This reminds me that I haven't posted about his vision in a long time.
Post coming soon on that subject.

I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

It's My Fall Mantel, Darnit!

I've decided that some decorating ideas that are really popular in
blogland don't always translate to the real world.

Have you experienced that?

Here's the thing...a month ago I redid the mantel.
I covered a piece of cardboard with pages torn from a hymnal to make the artwork.
You've seen that lots of times, right?

Then I hung the wreath on top.
Because a wreath makes everything prettier.

Right off the bat my husband said it looks like Christmas.
This was at least a month ago so he took the wind right out of my sails!
Then a few people who have visited our house have asked
what's on that picture?
I tell them it's pages from a hymnal and they say .... oh, that's nice.
The kind of nice that let's you know they aren't so sure about it.
Or maybe they think you are a little cuckoo.

I think it's really pretty and not so Christmas like.
There's no red ribbon or Santa peeking out.

It took me 3 years to part with the money to buy a preserved boxwood
wreath and I want to enjoy it.
And mercury glass is for all year, in my opinion.

So this has been our fall mantel for the last month or more.

Do you change the mantel for every season?

When Husband is Away

The love of my life went camping this weekend and left me here.

What's a girl to do? Well, no worries!
I spent Friday with a long time friend doing girl stuff. We went to Frisco Mercantile
(for all you locals) which is an antique and crafts mall.
Believe me they have everything decorating related that you could ever want.
We ate lunch and then saw a movie.
After the movie we did a little clothes shopping. That's my kind of day!

Yesterday I got the urge to clean my laundry room top to bottom and do a little refluffing.
The shelves needed dusting so I took everything off. That led to a quick trip to Hobby Lobby where I found the clock and laundry sign. On sale, of course.

I know you do that too. :)

Now the laundry room is ready for a new week and I'm soooo  ready for
my hubby to come home.

How about you?

Back in Spencer's Room

Happy November!!

A couple of weeks ago, I revealed a project to you that had been going on in
one of our bedrooms upstairs. This is the room where Spencer stays when he comes home.
He lives on his own and has never called this house home but I still want it to be
just right for him too.

At the time that I first showed you the room, I was waiting on the perfect art work.
And it arrived last week.

Isn't it wonderful?!
We all love it.
I'll confess to trying to find a place downstairs to hang it
but truly it was meant for this spot.

Maybe someday he'll bring a wife here.
Bet she'd like it too.

What do you think?
