A New Shelf in the Granny Guest Room

There's something about a shelf that excites me!
You know, it's the chance to decorate a new spot.

I recently ran across this new chippy metal shelf at a shop here in town.
It immediately called out to me and said Take me home!
Of course, I had to oblige.

She's a crusty old thing and I have no idea where she might have been used before.
But in our house she's above the granny guest bed.

With about 5 minutes to decorate today I threw these goodies up here and
I'm happy with it for now.
I have wondered what Kris at Junk Chic Cottage would do with this shelf.
She amazes me with all of her chippy finds.

The red picture frame that you've seen before came from an antique
shop locally. The bird frame is from HomeGoods or TJ.

We had a discussion about the safety of the shelf above
the bed but it's screwed into the wall with wall anchors.
So it's there for eternity.

Over on the dresser is a pitcher of fresh flowers.
What will I do when the season ends?
Almost every room in our house has had flowers this summer.
Love them!!

Off to Zumba soon.
Hope you are having a nice week. :)

August in the Front Garden and Some Tunes

Packing our bags for the beach today but I wanted to pop in
and share a few pics of the front flower bed.

It's hard to believe most of this was planted last year.
It's full and lush. We love it!

While you are looking let's talk about music.
I have a song stuck in my head and have been playing it over and over.
Love it!! Makes me want to get some Zumba moves on.

Do you get songs stuck in your head?
Loving Coldplay, "Sky Full of Stars" right now too.

Oh my, just remembered I'll be in the car with my sons for 6 hours tomorrow.
They might force me to change the playlist.
You know how that goes!

Son #1 would choose a little Slash.
Pretty good for singing in the car. :)

Son #2 might choose a little Phantom of the Opera.
And we'll all pretend to be the conductor as we go down the road.

My husband loves the blues and lots of Eric Clapton.
He'll quiz me all about Cream and all those groups Eric Clapton was in before I was born.
It's fun. :)

I'm not quite ready for Summer to end.
Yes, I've seen the painted pumpkins you all are pulling out and I thank you for the inspiration.
But it's hot and steamy here and the beach is calling us!

Hope you are having a wonderful August!!

For Love of Ordinary Days

Nothing extraordinary going on around here in the last few days.
 And you know what?
I love it!

Sometimes life can be so crazy and busy that when ordinary hits
it can feel a little boring to this busy body.
Sometimes it takes a little adjustment in heart and attitude
to realize that every day doesn't have
projects or major to-dos.

So lately it's been a pimiento cheese sandwich with a nap afterwards kind of days.

Vacuuming the floors and shining the counter tops kind of days.

Looking at old magazines and drinking iced tea kind of days.

How about you?
What are you up to today?

One of My Favorite Things To Do This Summer

Sharing flowers - that's one of my favorite things to do this summer.

Hope you are having a great day today!

Good Morning Girls!

Today I grabbed my coffee and scooted out the door with our unruly little dog.
The first thing I saw were these beautiful bougainvillea blooms.
Aren't they the most unusual color?
They are coral and I normally think of them as purple.
This was a happy surprise when the colors popped out.

We have been so incredibly lucky in the last week to have rain.
It's unusual this time of year especially when we are in drought like this.
Everything in our yard is so pretty but summer is beginning to wane.
Have you noticed it too?
We still have 6 or 8 weeks of heat here but the locusts are sounding different and so are the crows.
Those are signs of change in my book.

I hope you have a wonderful day!
Make sure you notice something pretty outside your door. :)

A Very Special Guest

Today I have a special blogger to share with you.

I asked Judy to be a special guest here today because she's just so sweet!
Her blog is about faith, nature, giving, delicious food, and family.
She's a humble person so I wasn't surprised when the post she sent me was kind of short.
She's not one to toot her own horn.

Grab your iced tea, read through Judy's words below,
and then click on some of the links I've added throughout the
post. I know you'll love the time you spend there.
This is a sweet spot in blog land!
The kind of place you visit and feel that you've been surrounded with kindness. :)

From the time I was a little girl, I've spent hours of time
in the kitchen.  My mother shared her love of hospitality and cooking with
each of her daughters, and daughter-in-laws over the years.
When she cooked, baked, or served food, it was often in simple fashion.
But, she took whatever food she served and added a little something to make it "prettier".
I remember her adding parsley flakes to dishes
of buttered noodles and mashed potatoes, to make sure it had color.
I clearly remember her decorating the birthday cakes that she made for
each of her five children.  Eventually, she wanted to improve her baking skills, so
she signed up for cake decorating classes by the Wilton Company.
Her philosophy in most every area of homemaking was....."if you are going to
do something, why not do it well!"
I am sure my enjoyment in many areas of my life was passed down from her.

I did not own a computer, and hence blogging was never a desire
of mine.  One day, when my oldest daughter was visiting, I shared a
project that I had completed, with her.  She insisted at that
point in time that I start blogging.  The title of my blog is one she came up
with, and quite honestly, it fits my blog well.  Often, after previewing
an individual post, I think to myself, "this certainly is just

Through blogging, I share my faith, my family, my friends, events, cooking,
how blogging has opened new avenues of life and introduced me
to some special people that otherwise I might not have met.

When Stacey asked me to be a guest on her lovely, colorful,
and meaningful blog, I was honored.

And, as you can see above, I still like to add touches
of color and design to most
everything I do.
Please feel free to stop by
I'd love to meet you.
