Hardly Working

You know that old question, "Are you working hard or hardly working?"

To me, working outside is hardly working.
I love it.
Love the the plants, the smells, the birds, the heat.

My neighbors paid someone to put flowers in their flower bed a couple of weeks ago.
I tried to convince them that I'd help them and we could do it in no time at all.
They don't like that kind of work so there was no convincing them.

We built this bed a year ago.
It's coming along nicely but continues to change.
Just a couple of weeks ago we took out the last of the hollies that the builder had
put in. We just didn't love them and they were taking up valuable space.
We needed the space for prettier plants like this lantana.
There are 5 of them in the bed and they get  H U G E!

See that row of lantana in the picture below? They are above the label.
Last year they got so big that they overtook the roses that were planted behind them.
So this year we moved the roses to another spot.

Now come on lantanas - do your job!
They will fill in that whole empty space and give so much bang for your buck. :)

I know that some people would rather eat a bug than work in the flower bed.
But don't you think we should all have something that feels like "hardly working"? photo signature_zps30d572ae.png

It's so FuN to get involved in a project & the time totally whizzes by! It's our weekend to plant the Zinnia seeds + annuals. Our weather suddenly got warm & the perennial gardens are "growing like weeds". Stacey, your Lantana is so pretty!

I agree, Stacey! I love "working" in the garden too. It's so nice to see the results of your hard work when everything starts blooming. You can't beat lantana...it's such a good bloomer and can totally take the heat. I used to have a ton of them at my old house and they were the star of the show. :) Your garden looks fantastic! Are those wooden shutters I see? They're gorgeous!

You have a green thumb and your love for gardening certainly shows, everything looks lovely! I like my hands in the dirt, but I really feel that way about crafting and decorating! I love that! :)

Your yard looks beautiful. I also love to dig in the dirt. It is my relaxing therapy. Now if I just had some time to do it.....Soon school will be out and I'll have more time. Your yard looks beautiful!

Our lantana has gone wild even though we cut it back severely. It loves this Florida heat, I guess. You have beautiful flower beds and yes, it does feel good to get outside. Hugs, Diane

Hey, come on over to my house.:) I love working in the yard, but once the temps get into the high 90s, I'm indoors. Your garden looks wonderful Love the color of your lantana. The kind I bought this year wasn't exactly the color the tag said.
I hate it when that happens. I ended up with two of one color and the third slightly different. Thanks for the garden inspiration.

Everything looks so lovely! I'm a big fan of lantana, too. It's one of our "go to" plants since it does so well in our HOT and DRY part of Texas!

Love your post Stacey! Yes I've been hardly working too..but I'm a little sore this week from all the bending and lifting! Went to TLC yesterday to get the rest of my bedding plants to finish up my front yard this weekend. I just love your flower bed...great colors and combinations. Nice that you have a sunny spot so you can have great color! Oh do take more pictures when the lantana is in full bloom! Enjoy the weekend...we are getting some much needed rain.

Your yard looks great, Stacey! I love lantana, too. Plant it...and forget it! This is the perfect weather for planting, too. In a couple of weeks, it will just be too hot. Hopefully, we can get that good rain that's predicted.

Very nice...totally relate to the love of working in the yard. It results in (a good) physical exhaustion, a nice shower, cozy clothes and a nice meal...the best combination. Then you step out and take another look at your work.
tada!

Hugs!

Oh yes indeed! Hardly working! I adore dirt, the smell of bark, the smell of wet plants, I hand pick bugs. You are a girl after my own heart! I adore you...I haven't worked with lantana yet. I was going to buy some today actually, but went with Mexican Sage. xoxo Jen

I feel the same! Working outside isn't work for me. Now cleaning my house...that's another story!

I have a couple of lantanas that come back every year. I really don't know why. Most of the don't.

Hi Stacey, it's been a while since I visited but the first thing I noticed was your new blog design! It's gorgeous! And I could stay outside most of the day if it wasn't so darn hot. We had some rain this evening so it should be a little cooler tomorrow. Perfect for outside work. Your beds are really pretty!

Your blog header is ever so cute. Thanks for stopping by and letting me know you like my Ralph Lauren Chair covers, I so like them too. If you've not too busy maybe you'll stop by and and share at my monthly Sunday's Best Party. Have a great weekend.
