So Much to be Thankful For

Good Morning!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Here's one of my favorite songs for this time of year.

Perfect Pound Cake

Did you know that I have the cleanest kitchen in the whole wide world?

It's true!!

Until I put my reading glasses on, that is.

That's when I realize that there are crumbs everywhere.

I've moaned before about needing glasses.

Then this past summer I turned 50. Dang-it!

Real glasses can't be put off much longer.

I did try contacts this year and let's just say...no.

I have squinted until my face is probably permanently stuck that way.

I've misread things.

I have banged into corners of cabinets with my reading glasses on because unfortunately you can't use
dime store reading glasses for everything.

And while driving, I can't read the dashboard because I am too busy
squinting off down the way.

Here's the neat thing though...when you need glasses you don't have to paint your finger nails nearly as often.

My nails have been chipping for a week now and it's not really bugging me that much.

Because I can't really see them.

Please tell me you can relate!

Yes, the time has come and in January I'll get real glasses.

Perfect Pound Cake

2 sticks butter
1/2 cup oil
3 cups sugar
4 eggs beaten
3 cups flour
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Blend dry and wet ingredients together and pour into Bundt or tube pan. Place in cold oven. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 300 degrees and bake 50-60 minutes. Test with toothpick.

Enjoy :)

World Kindness Day

Happy World Kindness Day Friends!

For the last year or two I've been collecting stories, quotes, and websites that promote
kindness and encouragement.

This has been mostly for me to read when I need a little encouragement.

Here are two things I'd like to share with you:

First, is a wonderful blog I discovered recently.

is a blog written by Diane who believes that every day should be extraordinary.
She writes the most uplifting posts which include good ideas and beautiful images.
Each time I read one of her posts I feel a little brighter. I bet you will too. :)

Next is a little story I read recently....an old friend from high school shared this on Facebook.

She said her mother had gone to the doctor that morning for a check up.
She expected to pay $20.00 for the co-pay but was told the cost would be $120.00. Yikes!

A woman that she had been visiting with earlier in the elevator quickly passed a $100.00 check to her and insisted that she put it toward the bill. Then she left quickly!!

There are just so many nice people in the world, y'all!!

A Warm and Welcoming Entry

Good Afternoon Girls!

I'm so excited to show you my most recent project.
I just finished revamping the entry area right as you walk in the front door.
Our entry area is d.a.r.k. because of the two story house design, the dark floors, and the lack of sidelights.

In fact, the granny guest room that I showed you the
other day is just around the corner to the left of this spot.

It would be hard to make this area darker. Sheesh!!

I kept searching for the just right piece of furniture
in the Ballard Designs catalog.
This isn't a style of furniture I've ever considered but I thought the
mirrors would be helpful bouncing light.

After placing the order I got scared!
What if the quality wasn't good?
What if the color was off?

Well she's a beauty!!
She's a soft white with a finish that doesn't look too brand new.
That's what I like.

The huge wall mirror is an Ikea find.
You know large mirrors are super expensive.
This one is huge and it was a bargain at $69.00. :)

I love the way the light and reflections are bouncing around and
I'm looking forward to decorating this console for the seasons.

What have you done lately in your entry?

November 1: The Perfect Day for Flowers and .....

Today I woke up with a few things on my mind.

My first goal was to put together a flower arrangement from my yard so I could join

Fresh flowers in the house are such a treat and mine are still pretty in the yard.

Something else has been bugging me though....

I've been stalking this dog on the animal shelter website for the last month.

She had 5 puppies and they've just now all been adopted.

So...I went and got her.

Meet Ladybelle. That's what they called her at the shelter.

We are calling her Belle.

She comes to us spayed and microchipped.

She's had her shots.

And every good habit you could think of, she's already learned.

We are already completely in love with her!!
