Getting Ready for Friends

 Hi there!

It's been a busy week here.

We've been painting my son's bedroom.

Today I'm getting ready for friends who are passing through.

They are spending a couple of nights and we are excited!

I don't have my menu planned yet.

Better get to it!

What are you up to?

A Visit With Nancy - Home Tour Part 1

Those of us who have been blogging for awhile remember Nancy from Southern Lady blog.

Nancy was a very active blogger for several years but now she's a busy working girl!

I begged her to send us some pictures of her new house and here they are!!

I'm so excited. :)

You can see the southern style from the moment you drive up.

Now I won't talk too much....just enjoy.

Nancy and her husband stumbled on this beautiful painting one day.
She said it reminded her of herself at that age so much!
It was painted in 1980 and she was about the same age.
Her sweet husband gave her the painting for her birthday.

Aren't the colors wonderful?

I'm green with envy over all of that molding!

Just beautiful!

Nancy said she has found a consignment shop she loves.

She takes items in and brings things home.

Smart, don't you think?

Isn't it pretty?

Looks like a show home to me.

Here's one more....

this one was taken in the morning light.

Look at the way the light glows.

I have more pictures to share in a day or two. Wait till you see her dining room!!

You're Invited for a Visit With Miss Nancy

Hi Girls!

I'm so excited about this!

I know you remember Nancy from the Southern Lady blog.

Nancy blogged for several years from her beautiful home in Tennessee.

She organized parties for those of us who love red in our homes.

She shared lovely tearooms, pictures from around town and at the beach,
her puppies, her family, amazing decorating....

She made beautiful tassels... I still have this one. :)

Well you know how life gets busy!

Nancy went back to work and got so busy that she decided to stop blogging.

I still talk with her by email and she has agreed to share her NEW home with us.

I hope you'll come back later this week for a peek into her gorgeous southern style. :)

Pass the word and make her feel welcome!!

Nesting on the Patio

Yesterday we had a wonderful downpour of rain.

I think we got at least 2" over the course of two or three hours.

(Precious nest letters ordered from vintage541.etsy.com)

We were expecting really high winds so I brought all the pot plants in.

Then when the high winds weren't too bad (thankfully) I carried them all
back outside to get a good soaking.

Today is beautiful, hot, and steamy.

Summer is on the way!

We spend a lot of time on this area of the patio.

We just got the furniture a few months ago and it has given us the
perfect place to have coffee in the mornings.

We are nerdy bird watching kind of people. :)

We see all kinds of birds including pterodactyls.

Really they are herons and cormorants but I call them pterodactyls
because when they come flying in they always make me think of Jurassic Park.

Today I'm making myself not watch the news of my Oklahoma.

Our friends and family are all fine.

I hope you will consider making a donation to one of the organizations helping with recovery.

Praying for Oklahoma

Ever So Grateful

Today I've been working in the flower bed.

Battling Bermuda grass that loves to grow where it's not wanted.

Battling fire ants and let me tell ya that's a battle.

I did not miss fire ants in Oklahoma.... At All!

I'm feeling so grateful for my home and family.

And the rain that fell last week.

Grateful for the banana pudding we had yesterday.

And my son who was here for a short time this weekend.

Just grateful. :)

How about you?

Little by Little

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I showed you our Friday night project?

At that time there was just a nice spread of Bermuda grass in the backyard.

When you move, it takes time to make a garden.

We aren't terribly patient.

So the man of my dreams started digging and mixing dirt and compost.

He planted one big beautiful crape myrtle but it seemed lonely.

So we kept planting and planting.

Now we have a flower bed that can grow and mature beautifully.

Roses, day lilies, pentas, periwinkles, moss rose, amaryllis, society garlic, and thyme.

When I wake up in the mornings I look out and smile. :)

A Slow Simmering Love Affair

I've never explained to you how hastily we bought this house.

Some people have an instantaneous love for their house.

They drive down a road and it calls to them.

I understand because I felt that way about our last house.

This house purchase went like this.

We decided it was time to move to Texas.

We drove down here on Friday, April 20, 2012.

I looked at maybe 7 houses and hated them all.

(I wanted old he wanted new.)

This house had the pond behind it so it kind of grabbed my interest.

(Dining room is just to the right of the front door.)

On the Saturday that I was looking at houses my husband was out running a race.

It was me and my sweet realtor.

That night I told my husband how much I disliked all of them except maybe for one that was kind of ok because there was a pond behind it and it had a pretty kitchen.

Now during this conversation I was one big cry baby boo-hooing about leaving Oklahoma.

So on Sunday our realtor brought us back to this ONE house that my husband looked at.

And we bought it.

Here's why I'm telling you all of this...

The pictures you are seeing are all the entryway.

Um, what am I supposed to do with this?

It's roundish and there are three niches. Yes three!!

See that one way up there?

The pictures that are in the niches right now are only there to fill an empty spot. They aren't staying.

That light fixture that hangs from the second story is teeny tiny.

Whatever goes in the up high niche will require a ladder that is REALLY tall.

And whatever goes there might never change.

So I ask you wise decorating friends...

What on earth do I do with this space?

What would you do?

Tweaking for Spring

Spent some time on Monday tweaking the mantel and the bookshelves in our family room.

I ordered this print from Art.com and popped it into a frame that I already had.

Can I tell you how much I love it?

I LOVE it and it's perfect for the season.

Like BJ and Shelia say, I could marry it!

Confession: Y'all move your accessories around all the time...

not me.

If something looks nice I tend to leave it the same way for probably too long.

Love these colorful orbs.

Orbs are what they called them at the store but they are just colorful balls. :)

They remind me of bocce balls.

I'm off tonight to have dinner with my high school girlfriends.
