Please Give Your Opinion

This is our dining room currently.

We've concentrated on other parts of the house for the last 8 months so she's neglected.

She's naked.

She really doesn't like the white curtains from Pottery Barn.

She wants white slip covered chairs on the ends.

She's the first room you see when you walk in the house!

The curtains have to go....I need color!

My sweet husband said, "Get rid of them!"

Well OK!!

What do you think of this idea?

Is it over-used? I still want to keep the toile on the tell me your opinion please.

Other ideas:

decorative ladder next to hutch
decorate table and top of hutch
white dishes mixed in with transferware

Office In Order

Happy Friday Girls!

My to-do list this week has been extensive.
Let me tell ya, it has taken diligence to work on my office space.
My attention span is that of a flea these days.

The pictures may be hard to understand.
This is really a small space just around the corner from the kitchen.

If you look here at Tuesday's post you can remember the before.

Here it is today.

I had to:
shred papers
file papers (ugh!!)
find homes for several items
and we installed under the counter lighting.

The bulletin board is covered with pages torn from an old Mary Engelbreit calendar.

There are also a few photos and poems that I love.

On the wall, a monogram for us.

On another wall, pictures of my boys when they were little.

These will always hang on my wall.
From here to eternity.

I also gave my chair a new coat of spray paint, padded the seat, and recovered it.

Let me just say that if I keel over tomorrow, my family members will not fight over this chair.
Miss Mustard Seed would not be proud of my work.
And if you sit wrong, the chair just might crash to the ground. True.

I'm happy with it all for now.

I'd love to tell you that it will stay this way.
But let's be honest,
every house has a place where things are piled.
You're looking at it and I'm the worst offender.

What are you working on right now?

I'll be by to check and see. :)

My Happy List

Let me honest, in the past I've never given tons of attention to posts like this.
However, after I participated last week I realized that taking the time to think
about this and to actually write it down really changes things.

  I felt happy doing it!

1.  Yesterday I got my kitchen sparkling clean and since everyone is super busy this week
it might stay that way for a day or two. You can see that by
sliding down and reading yesterday's post.

2.  The sunshine has been beautiful here!

3.  I'm working on my desk area.

This is what it looked like before we moved in.

Um, it looked like this 2 days ago....I was already cleaning here.

Don't worry, I'm not a hoarder or anything.

I'll show you the clean and pretty later.
I'm just happy that the mess is finally getting cleaned and organized.
This desk is right around the corner from the kitchen and it is a total dumping ground.

4.  Today is Tuesdays with Dorie day.

I just can't get enough of her tiny little cottage.

You must go see it!

What's making you happy today?

Join us by writing it down. :)
It will make you feel all warm and cozy inside!

Monday Morning Poofing

Good Morning Friends.

Today began early at our house.
My husband had to be at the airport really early to go to Roanoke, Virginia.
Now when you have to get to DFW Airport and you live an hour away...that means we get up at 5 am.

That's OK because it has given me time to play in the kitchen this morning.

Doesn't the world just feel better when the kitchen is clean and shiny? It does to me.
In fact, when I'm stressed the first thing I do is start cleaning! That might be weird.

Anyway, today I just wanted to walk around the kitchen and take a few pics. I really love this kitchen so much. Have I ever told you that someone else built this house and then they couldn't buy it because they couldn't sell theirs? Wouldn't that be sad?

You saw this wire basket at Christmas. Picked this up at Laurie Anna's Vintage Home.
Yes, I see those Christmas cookbooks in there.
I'm still finding bits and pieces of Christmas around the house.

The all important coffee spot.

This is another little corner with one of my Janet Hill prints stashed.
Her artwork is so pretty....I've gotten a couple more around the house.

I love colored spatulas.  You know, the kind that doesn't melt?
They add fun little splashes of color.

A view from another direction.
Windows are on all sides and it is challenging to take good pictures.

Are you getting little peeks of the curtains that Sonya made?

There's a story there....I'll tell it last.

Some of my favorite cup towels.
The rolling pin towel is a Martha Stewart goody that jumped in my arms recently when
I was shopping for someone else.  Does that happen to you?
The Home Sweet Texas towel was a gift from one of my favorite people in the world.

Here's a different perspective.
So glad you can't see the crumbs on the floor.

made these for both sides of the kitchen.
They are stunning as always.
I sent her a picture on my phone when I had them all hung...

She sweetly told me that I had them upside down. The stripe goes on the bottom.
And she reminded me about the picture I referred to when I was asking her to make these..
and the stripe goes at the bottom.

Well, Sonya...don't hate me.

I tried them both ways and I love them like this.

You are the best curtain maker ever!!

Thanks for coming by today.

Happy Monday!

Spread Joy Up to the Maximum

Each week I see a
I love that she takes a moment to focus on positive and good things happening in her life.
So this week I'm joining in.

1. Spent last weekend with my family to celebrate my Dad's 74th birthday.
He's more fit than you or me and the advice he would give people is to keep working and moving.
Good advice.

You've seen pictures of Dad's 101 year old house that he has refurbished before.
He also refurbishes antique Cushman scooters.
Takes them to contests around the country and wins!

2.  Driving back from Austin I found this "old music" radio station.
They played this song and it is stuck in my head.
Be sure to click and listen so you can "Accentuate the Positive" too. :)

3.  It was snowing when I woke up this morning.
Yes, this is a light dusting but hey this is Texas y'all!
I love it.

4. Our oldest son is officially in his last semester of college.
He's majoring in Criminal Justice at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Yes, we are very proud parents.

5. Younger son is going to school and working many hours at Lowe's.
He loves his job and we are very happy for him.

**You know that saying about,
"A mother is only as happy as her unhappiest child."
How true is that?

What are you happy about today?
Please tell. :)

Looks like we are linking our Happy Lists

at High Heeled Love today.

Around the Corner and Just for Fun :)

We have this little niche outside our master bedroom door.

It's kind of neat and I wanted something a little unexpected there.

I spotted this precious little fairy door at Red Shoes awhile back.

I kept visiting and looking and wishing for that cute little door.

Santa brought it to me.

Isn't it adorable?

Just for fun. :)

If you want a dose of whimsy and color go visit Red Shoes

You'll love it!

Happy Friday. :)

These little pretties prove that an impulse buy at the grocery store isn't always a bad thing.

Best $4.99 I've spent in some time.

Go get yourself some!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Looking Forward and Thinking About Gardening

There's so much to look forward to in the new year!

One thing I'm looking forward to in our new home is gardening.

At our last house, we created a beautiful yard.

Working in the yard on the weekends was "our thing".

We loved planting flowers, trees, and bushes.

We loved the water...

and the fish.

We loved moving stones and creating paths to special spots.

We loved playing in the shade and the sun to see what would grow.

We loved the bugs and the birds.

And now, in the spirit of looking forward...

I need to put my thinking cap on and decide what this blank slate can become.

That pond you see is not on our property. That's a greenbelt back there.

It's exciting to think of what might be!!
