Planning a Trip

Our 20th anniversary was last year.

We were so busy working and getting ready for a college student to leave that we didn't do anything to celebrate. So...I'm working on a trip plan today.

We've always wanted to go to this sultry southern place..can you guess where?

Beautiful gardens and historic homes.

Want to see lots of flowers and ride in a carriage.

Mmm hmm...this gave it away right? Yes, we want to visit her restaurants.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ...

We are planning a trip to Savannah!! I'm so excited! Now we've never been before so I need your input. Where do we HAVE to go? What do we HAVE to do? Where do we HAVE to eat?

We are going April 15th.

Help me here...build the excitement for me. You know looking forward to a trip is as good as going sometimes.

Well since I am only 90 minutes away from Savannah maybe I can help. I am rushing through catching up this AM but I will think on this and get back with you. Jackie

First of all, I totally speak 40-something, so I "got" your 1st comment! :O) Secondly, I knew right away WHERE you are heading, and you will LOVE IT!!! In fact, I was planning to go there for my b-day in a few weeks, but I'm thinking of post-poning it b/c I don't like cold weather, and that's about all we've had recently. There are tons of good antique stores, and art galleries, and a candy store right on the Riverfront that makes the best pralines (I'm blanking on the name (maybe River Street Treats?), but I use to get a catalog from them). Be sure to take a trolley tour too. You'll have a blast! There is a nice Hyatt or Hilton (forget which) right on the Riverfront that is nice, but they have valet parking, which I don't personally care for. It's also a 'TAD' pricey. Have a great time!!! Maybe I'll even see ya' down there!

We lived just a couple of hours from Savannah, when we lived in Georgia. Sadly, the only trips we made there were for my son's basketball tournaments. You can imagine that involved large groups of pre-teen boys and pizza parlors.

I wish my hubby and I would have had a nice "adult" get-away that would have involved some sightseeing and good restaurants. It is a pretty town, though:-)

Try Southern Living's website to see if they have any travel information on Savannah. I am sure they do...usually they have fantastic restaurant and shopping advice!

That will be so exciting for you two to get away!!!

Hi Stacey....
I do believe it is New Orleans!
I would so love to visit that city.
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog...FramedandTagged...in answer to your question about how I did the photos. Just pick a background you like and go into photoshop or paint and its called layering.
Enjoy your trip!!

Hi Stacey, Sorry it took me so long to stop in and say hello after you visited me the other day. Things have been busy here with ebay and my give away. It is so nice to meet you. I hope you have a good time in Sahvanna. I spent a week there in the Marriott on the river front in 1999 and I loved every minute of it. Sooooo beautiful there. Love all the spanish moss. Don't be out to late on river street by yourself. It can be dangerous with the street bums and such. You will love it I know and can't wait to hear all about it and see your pics. My favorite thing there was the waving girl. I loved her story and I took lots of pics of her. Have fun,Shanda

Hi Stacey,
We were in Savannah about 10 years ago. I had been reading about it in Southern Living so we made it one of the stops on our vacation trip that summer. It's a beautiful place. We loved seeing the many parks with statues. At that time I was unaware of Paula Deen so if I ever go there again I definitely want to eat at The Lady & Sons restaurant!
When are you going? Enjoy planning you trip!
Hugs,
Carol

Stacey,
You are going to love Savannah! They now have a Paula Dean tour that takes you around the city to stores she frequents and also includes a lunch at her new restaurant. I haven't taken that one yet, but I know it sounds like fun. Also, go to the Lady and Sons for a great dinner. Her buffet is super yummy. I hope you enjoy your trip! Amy

Oh how fun, Stacey! I'm excited for you! I love Savannah - I've been just a few times, and couldn't stay long either time, but loved it. We stayed on Tybee Island one time, & had so much fun. Congratulations on 20 years with your hubby, too. :) I hope you take lots of pictures!

Never been so I can't help :( I have a good friend that went though and loved it! What a nice anniversay present. Don't feel bad, we didn't get to do anything for our 20th, 25th or 30th. I like to do things at "off beat" times because then there is no expectations or disappointments...only fun! Have a great time :) ~Cheryl

Go to Paula Deen's to eat- but be forewarned the line is so long. You should show up early- get a beeepr- and then go explore downtown for 5 hours or so, until it is your time to get back in line. Seriously- it takes that long.

Also, the gift shop in Paula's is tiny and crowded and you may not get in it at all.

Take a trolly tour downtown. Very informative.

Also, Go to the park and bench where Forrest Gump sat during the movie.

It is really a nice place. A lot of good places to shop. It reminds me a lot of New Orleans but it is so much cleaner!

You'll have a great time.

I just discovered your blog and I love it! We were in Savannah last summer and had a great time. We ate at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House (a historic site) and I bought the cookbook. Good southern cooking. We also took our kids to the Pirate House for Sun. lunch (300 years old, haunted). That was fun too. Oh, and walking along the shops by the river...during the day. It's such a beautiful city and so charming. Have a great trip.
